Local roundup: Esposito strikes out 11 in Williamsport’s win

Tanner Esposito struck out 11 batters in four innings of work to help Williamsport defeat Hollidaysburg, 11-1 in six innings on Wednesday in high school baseball.

Quinten Brown, Brayton Rowello and Riley Hilner combined for nine hits and Cam Pardoe and Ethen Stryker both had two.

Gage Yahn struck out 11 batters as Montgomery defeated the Golden Knights, 4-2, in baseball.

Jaiden Cioffi led St. John Neumann by going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Brandon Loner scored Neumann’s two runs. Jensen Drick led the Red Raiders by going 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

Wellsboro had just one hit, but a solid pitching effort from Carson Davis helped the Green Dragons earn a 2-0 win over Athens. Davis pitched all seven and scattered three hits while not allowing a run.

Dewey Wise drilled a walk-off single down the third-base line as North Penn-Mansfield capped a furious seventh-inning rally and edged Towanda, 5-4.

The Tigers scored four seventh-inning runs without an out being recorded, erasing a three-run deficit. Dylan Williamson slammed two doubles.

Hughesville was blanked by Central Columbia, 9-0. Jacob Corson went 2 for 3.

Christian Good had six strikeouts in three innings of relief as Muncy defeated Benton, 9-7. Good also had a solo home run. Coty Steele went 2 for 4 with a double.

Logan Ott had a dominant performance in Montoursville’s 10-0 over Danville. Ott got the win and went 4 for 4 with three RBIs. Owen Kiess went 2 for 4 with a double three runs scored and two RBI.

South Williamsport defeated Bloomsburg, 5-0. Tripp Breen and Pete Sinibaldi combined on ano-hitter. Hunter Corbin was 2 for 3 with a home run, double and three RBIs. Sinibaldi and Logan Burkett both had two hits.

Nick Shedleski threw a complete game in Lewisburg’s 4-3 come-from-behind win over Loyalsock. The Green Dragons scored two runs in each of the last two innings as Aaron Strosser went 3 for 4 with a run and RBI.

• Muncy took an early lead in the first inning but Benton scored nine unanswered runs to defeat the Indians, 9-2. Kassidi Lenhart had a double.

North Penn-Liberty defeated Towanda, 5-1. In her first varsity start, Jess Kouba had the go-ahead RBI in the fourth inning and went 2 for 3 to help Liberty secure the win.

Brooke Harvey led Liberty with a 3 for 4 performance with a double and two RBIs. Liberty hosts Troy Friday and is having a “Pink Out For Callie.”

Sammi Reeder hit two home runs and Skyler Colarusso threw a brilliant two-hit shutout as Williamsport won its second game in as many days, blanking Hollidaysburg, 10-0 in five innings.

Katie Meale also had a second straight two-hit game and three players hit doubles. Colarusso struck out 11.

Sydney Tremper was 4 for 4 with two runs scored and helped Wellsboro defeat Athens, 7-1. Cathryn Brought held Athens to just three hits.

• In boys tennis, South Williamsport’s Bryce Brewer defeated Muncy’s Jeremy Lloyd at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, and helped the Mounties earn a 4-1 win over the Indians.

Loyalsock was blanked by Central Columbia, 5-0. John Duncan won for the Blue Jays at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Avery Pruden earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles over Quinn Deitrick of Loyalsock.

Lewisburg defeated Mifflinburg, 4-1. Carter Casimir defeated Nolan Beck at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1. The Wildcats’ only win against the Green Dragons was at No. 3 singles.

Williamsport defeated Milton, 4-1. Kevin Zheng won at No. 1 singles for the Millionaires, 6-0, 6-1. Milton’s Eric Counsil defeated Tiarnan Ferry in tough competition, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Milton’s Kyle Wagner and Williamsport’s Ty Jackson played for 2 hours, 20 minutes to decide the No. 3 singles match, which Jackson won, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.

Jersey Shore blanked Shikellamy, 5-0. Alex Trunzo (No. 1), John Duda (2) and Mike Walker (3) swept the singles competition for the Bulldogs.

North Penn-Liberty defeated Galeton, 5-2. Joe Brelo won for Galeton at No. 1 singles, defeating Jonathon Nelson.

Montoursville defeated Bloomsburg, 3-2. Mitchell Young won at No. 1 singles in ultimate tie-break 0-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

• Jersey Shore’s Isaac Davis won the 1,600, finishing in 4:27.80, and the Bulldogs defeated Montgomery in boys track and field, 117-33. Montgomery only won two events. Hunter Frantz won the 100 and also earned a win in the high jump.

• Jersey Shore defeated Montgomery in girls track and field, 124-22. Madison Maihle won two tight races, winning the 100 by a tenth of a second and winning the 200 in 28.30, beating the second-place finisher by just 0.6 seconds.

Jersey Shore’s Emma Butzler won the discus with a throw of 97-6. Montgomery’s Jessica Umpstead earned two wins, winning the long jump in 15 feet, 6 3/4 inches and the triple jump in 33-3.

• Braxtin Reddinger scored a team-high four goals, but Lock Haven fell on the road to Bloomsburg in women’s lacrosse, 14-11. Katie Costanza added two goals.

Bucknell defeated Ohio Staet, 10-8, thanks to a 7-1 run between halves to build up a lead that proved to be too much for Ohio State. Eve Calabria had three goals and an assist for Bucknell.

Jordan Lazarich became the third player in Lycoming program history to score 250 career points, but the Warriors fell to Stevenson, 22-16.

• A nine-goal effort that helped move him amongst the top goal scorers in the MAC Commonwealth has helped junior Andrew Ream become the first Lycoming College men’s lacrosse player to earn a slot on the USILA Team of the Week.

• Lock Haven split a doubleheader with Mansfield in baseball, winning the first contest, 13-10 in nine innings, before losing game two, 9-8.

In the first game, Keyshawn D’Orso was 4 for 4 with a home run and a team-high seven RBIs for the Bald Eagles. Tyler Guidos led Mansfield with a double and two RBIs in the first game and was 2 for 4 wtih a double and two runs in game two.

• Lock Haven swept a doubleheader against Pitt-Johnstown in softball, winning 9-7 and 10-2.

Jersey Shore grad Becca Caputo was a combined 6 for 8 with a double and four RBIs in the two games to lead the Bald Eagles. In the second game, Loyalsock grad Kayla Gee pitched four solid innings to earn the win, yielding only one hit.

Penn College dropped a pair of games to Susquehanna. The Wildcats lost, 8-0 and 6-1. Williamsport grad Taylor Brooks was 2 for 4 with an RBI in the second game.

Meghan Kovac went 5 for 5 to lead Bucknell to a 12-8 win over Mount St. Mary’s in game one. Kovac had a home run, three doubles and six RBIs for the Bison.

• In women’s tennis, Lycoming defeated Albright, 8-1. South Williamsport grad Hannah Summerson earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles for Lycoming and also partnered with Devinity Apollon at No. 1 doubles to win.

• Penn College shot 335 to finish fourth at the Keuka College Spring Invitational. Ned Baumbach and Austin Moscariello both shot an 82 to lead the Wildcats.
