ROUNDUP: Penn College sweeps twinbill

Five Penn College pitchers combined to hold Wells to just three hits over two games as the Wildcats swept and college baseball doubleheader, winning, 8-0 and 15-0, Sunday.

Colton Riley homered in both games for Penn College, and Brittan Kittle was 5 for 6 with six RBIs and a home run in the nightcapt. South Williamsport graduate Cody Nelson tossed six shutout innings in the opener for the Wildcats.

• Sophomore Madison Brown singled in the tying run in the top of the fifth inning, then singled in the game-winning run in the top of the seventh to lift the Lycoming softball team to a 5-4 win over Lebanon Valley in the opener of a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader Sunday. The Warriors fell in the second game, 2-1.

Senior Ashley Schoenstadt led off the top of the fifth with a walk, advanced to second on junior Cayla Treaster’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Brown’s RBI single up the middle to tie the game at four.

Penn College dropped a North Eastern Athletic Conference softball doubleheader to Penn State Berks. The Wildcats fell to 2-2 NEAC, 8-10 overall after an 8-0 loss in game one and a 6-1 setback in game two.

Mansfield rallied late in both games to take home two victories over Bloomsburg for the first time in program history.

The Mountaineers took the first game 4-3 before scoring four runs in the final inning to secure the 6-4 victory in game two.

Koryn Wickwire had four hits in the two games, and Rachael Sterner drove in three runs in the nightcap.

• South Williamsport graduate Katie Jones finished third in the pole vault at the LSU Battle on the Bayou on Saturday for Penn State University. jones cleared 3.80 meters (12 feet, 5 1/2 inches) to finish behind Olympic alternate Morgann LeLeux (4.55 meters) and PSU teammate and NCAA qualifier Hannah Mulhern (3.95 meters).
