Lyco’s Apollon named Rookie of Year

Sophomore Devinity Apollon stepped into the top of the Lycoming College women’s tennis lineup in 2017 in her first season with the team, posting a 6-1 conference record to earn the MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year award.

In addition, sophomore Hannah Summerson, a South Williamsport grad, and Apollon were each named first team All-MAC Commonwealth.

The pair are the first Warriors to be named to the conference’s first team since Megan Gardner in 2012. The duo is also the first set of teammates since Cricket Temple and Meredith Moerschbacher in 2002 to each be named to the first team in the same season.

Apollon finished the season with a 12-7 record in singles action, the sixth most in program history in a season. Summerson, who earned all-conference second-team honors last season, put together one of the most successful individual seasons in program history with a school-record 16-6 record in singles play. She finished second at the MAC Commonwealth Individual Championship in the fall.
