ROUNDUP: Sullivan softball moves into first place in Mid-Penn

Sullivan County had 17 hits and Madison Burke pitched a complete game one-hitter as the Griffins topped Muncy, 15-1, in six innings and took sole possession of first place in the Mid Penn conference. Quincy Fry went 4 for 5 and Mykenzie Malacusky added two hits and a homer for Sullivan.

Loyalsock scored seven runs in each of the first two innings of a 15-0 win over Southern Columbia in high school softball. Mari Houseknecht doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the Lancers, and Allyse Burns and Brynn Dunkleberger each doubled.

Savanah Doney singled in Brooke Harvey in the top of the eighth inning to give North Penn-Liberty a 4-3 win over Athens. Doney also struck out a career-high 15 as she scattered eight hits.

Mackenzie Heater homered in the top of the sixth inning to give the Mounties a 3-2 lead.

Avery Eiswerth and Katie Meale each hit triples but Williamsport dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker at Punxsutawney. Mikayla Aldenderfer and Skyler Colarusso combined on a four-hitter for Williamsport. Mariah Wright had a hit, run and an RBI.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Wellsboro scored the next six runs, including five in the second to pull away for a 6-2 win over Northeast Bradford. Heidi Zuchowski went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Kerrah Clymer earned the five-hitter win.

Emily Hennigan struck out six and walked just one in the complete game four-hitter to lead South Williamsport to a 6-1 win over Bloomsburg. Ashley Gardner went 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs and Lily Eiswerth added two RBIs for South.

Saige Whipple went 2 for 4 with a two-run home run and Montgomery scored multiple runs three different innings in its 11-9 win over CMVT. Morgan Tupper went 3 for 4 and Riley Fry (2 for 4) and Kylie Persing (2 for 3) added multi-hit efforts for the Red Raiders.

• Tripp Breen put together another dominant pitching performance and Luke Winner went 5 for 5 as South Williamsport cruised to a 12-1 win at Warrior Run. Breen won his sixth straight, throwing a four-hit complete game and striking out 14. The right-hander is the area’s first six-game winner and has 25 strikeouts in his last two starts.

Winner sparked a 17-hit attack and drove in three runs. Hunter Corbin, Ben Johnson, Gideon Green, Logan Burkett and Ashton Martin all had two hits each. Vincent Bender hit a home run for Warrior Run.

St. John Neumann avenged an early-season defeat with its 5-4 win over CMVT. Brandon Loner pitched 6 1/3 strong innings, before giving way to Jaiden Cioffi, who came in with the bases loaded with one out and got the final two batters to strike out and ground out to earn the save. Adam Helminiak and Malaki Parlate each went 1 for 3 with an RBI for Neumann.

Anthony Pastore pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings to lead Loyalsock to a 7-0 win over Bellefonte. Connor Watkins went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Evan Nagy added a hit with two RBIs to lead the Lancers.

Carson Davis struck out five in a complete game five-hitter and Wellsboro belted 12 hits as it defeated Northeast Bradford, 11-1, in five innings. Dalton Prough went 2 for 2 with a double, a triple, an RBI and three runs, and Johnny Rowland went 2 or 2 with three RBIs for the Green Hornets.

Isaac Snyder gave up four runs in 6 2/3 innings, but Mifflinburg scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to take the 6-4 win. Quentin Brown went 1 for 2 with a solo home run to lead Williamsport.

Brayden Strouse struck out 14 in a complete game two-hitter to lead Montgomery to an 8-4, come-from-behind win over Benton. The Red Raiders scored two runs in the sixth to tie the game then scored four more in the top of the seventh to take the lead.

Muncy tied the game in the top of the fourth with two runs, but Millville scored the game’s final four runs to take the 6-2 win. The Indians managed just two hits in the loss.

Lewisburg scored a run in the sixth and seventh, including the game-winner, to overcome a two-run deficit and defeat Selinsgrove, 4-3. Nick Shedleski pitched 2 2/3 innings of no-hit ball in relief to earn the win and went 4 for 4 with a run and an RBI.

Hughesville tallied just three hits as it fell to Southern Columbia, 6-0.

Central Mountain scored four runs in the final two innings to take a 6-2 win over Mifflin County. Zac Eck, Mahlik Houtz and Asher Corl each went 2 for 4 for the Wildcats.

• In boys tennis, Raahi Chapla and Morgan Talbot won in three sets at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, to lead Central Mountain to a 4-1 win over Jersey Shore.

• Five local graduates were named to the all-PSAC Central Division softball team Monday.

Lock Haven’s Kayla Gee (Loyalsock), Becca Caputo (Jersey Shore), Moriah Lindsey (Central Mountain) and Bryann Hilty (Central Mountain), joined Bloomsburg’s Kalynn Wheeland (South Williamsport) on the team.

Wheeland, selected as a designated player, was fifth in the league with a .414 batting average and second with a .742 slugging percentage. She led the Huskies with 53 hits and was tied for second with 11 home runs.

Gee is 16-5 this year as a pitcher and won 16 consecutive games at one point. She ranks fourth in the league in both wins (16) and strikeouts (109).

Lindsey is hitting .313 with nine doubles, 19 RBIs and 34 runs scored.

Caputo leads the PSAC with 15 doubles, just one away from tying the single-season school record. She’s hitting .327 with six home runs and 41 RBIs.

Hilty is fielding .979 at first base and has eight doubles, two home runs, 20 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

Lock Haven’s Bekah Slattery was tabbed the division’s pitcher of the year after an 18-5 campaign and 1.59 ERA with 200 strikeouts.

Also selected to the team were Lock Haven’s Madison Mathes and Faith Ceely, as well as Mansfield’s Joelle Snyder and Koryn Wickwire.
