ROUNDUP: Williamsport opens District 2-4 tennis tournament with shutout of Crestwood

Williamsport’s boys tennis team defeated Crestwood, 5-0, in the District 2-4 Class AAA quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals on Monday at Kirby Park in Kingston.

Kevin Zheng earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles and Tiarnan Ferry won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Williamsport’s doubles teams of Liam Ferry and Amani Tran (No. 1) and Ben Haussmann and Michael LeBlanc (No. 2) both won, 6-0, 6-1.

Bloomsburg swept the three singles matches to take a 3-2 win over Loyalsock. Ben Wescott teamed with Ty Whitmoyer to take a win at No. 1 doubles for Loyalsock, and Alek Hamilton and Alex Geyer won at No. 2 doubles.

Jersey Shore swept the three singles matches and picked up a win at No. 1 doubles from Dylan Leitch and Lincoln Lilly in a 4-1 win over Shikellamy.

• Annabelle Bergey doubled and drove in a pair of runs to lead Muncy to a 6-3 win over St. John Neumann in high school softball. Kassidi Lenhart and Makenna Snyder each drove in a run for the Indians.

Sullivan County defeated Benton in softball, 10-2, and in the process clinched a spot in the District 4 playoffs.

Sullivan County jumped out to a six-run lead in the first inning. Kyler Burke led the Griffins with three hits, Jessica King added two hits and an RBI and Madison Burke had two hits. Alexis Randall drove in two runs for the Griffins.

Kaitlyn Klotz had three singles and three RBIs to help Montoursville defeat Mifflinbug, 7-2.

Jordan McCarthy, Mackenzie Weaver and Faith Foster all added two hits for the Warriors. Montoursville scored all seven runs between the fourth and sixth innings.

Weaver scattered four hits for Montoursville.

Emily Hennigan and Mookie Sauers combined on a no-hitter as South Williamsport defeated Southern Columbia, 10-0, in five innings. Hennigan went 2 for 3 with a triple, home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Lily Eiswerth was 2 for 3 with two doubles and Sarah Sullivan went 2 for 2.

• Aaron Strosser led Lewisburg, going 3 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, and the Green Dragons defeated Midd-West, 12-6, in high school baseball.

Andrew Ramirez added a double and went 2 for 4 and Dakotah Snyder was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Joshua Heath added a triple and three RBIs for Lewisburg.

• Amanda Loar went 4 for 4 with an RBI and sparked the Lock Haven softball team’s 5-3 comefrom-behind win over Seton Hill in the second round at the PSAC Tournament. Lock Haven advances to today’s semifinal game.

LHU trailed early, but Loar’s strong day and another solid outing from pitcher Bekah Slattery sparked the victory.

• Jersey Shore grad Brook Rozenberg competed in the PSAC Outdoor Championships for Lock Haven in the heptathlon on day one and finished in 12th place. Highlighting her performance was her sixth-place finish in the high jump, as she cleared 4 feet, 9 3/4 inches.

• In men’s track and field, Lock Haven’s Luke Vanderhoff ran to all-conference honors in the 10,000-meter run at the PSAC Outdoor Championships. He ran to a 15th-place finish in 32:26.55.
