12 hits help the Cutters earn win
BROOKLYN – A 12-hit offensive performance by the Williamsport Crosscutters helped lift the team to a 4-2 win over the Brooklyn Cyclones on Monday afternoon to close out a three-game road series.
Williamsport heads back to Bowman Field today for a three-game series wtih the Muckdogs and then a three-game series with the Black Bears.
Five Crosscutters had multiple hits in the win. Danny Mayer led the team by going 3 for 4 with two doubles. Jesus Henriquez (2 for 4, triple, two RBIs), Ben Pelletier (2-4, double, triple, two RBIs), Madison Stokes (2-5) and Rafael Marchan (2-5) all had at least two hits.
Williamsport had three doubles and two triples as well.
The Crosscutters took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning thanks to a two-RBI triple by Henriquez with one out to drive in Ben Aklinski and Matt Kroon.
The Crosscutters added another run in the top of the fifth inning, but the Cyclones avoided the shutout with a two-run fifth inning of their own.
Ross Adolph hit a triple to right that brought in Anthony Dirocle for Brooklyn and two batters later, David Miranda was out on a sacrifice fly, but brought in Adolph for two runs and to cut the deficit down to one run.
But Williamsport never allowed Brooklyn to take a lead or even tie the game.
In the top of the seventh inning, Williamsport added one more run to get a little breathing room. After two outs started the inning, Stokes reached ona line drive to right field. Pelletier then doubled to right to bring in Stokes for the run.
On the mound, Osacar Marcelino earned his first win of the year with one inning of work. James McArthur pitched four innings for Williamsport and Randy Alcantara earned the save, his second, with four innings of relief work.
Brooklyn had only five hits over the five innings against the trio, but did manage a double and triple.
Briam Campusano pitched six innings for Brooklyn and earned the loss after allowing nine hits and three runs, all earned.
Williamsport improved to 12-17 and is fourth in the New York-Penn League’s Pinckney Division.
