Montoursville seniors advance to winners’ final
In the senior baseball regional tournament in Thorofare, N.J. on Saturday afternoon, Montoursville overcame a two-run deficit and advanced to the winners’ bracket final with a 6-3 win over New Jersey.
Montoursville advanced to Monday’s winner bracket final and it will take on Delaware at 7:30 p.m. for a chance to play in the regional final.
The Senior World Series is held in Easley, South Carolina.
Facing a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning, Montoursville’s Jonathan Zayas led off with a double and the bases eventually became loaded and Naaman Amos was hit by a pitch to make it 3-2. Peyton Mussina followed with a two-run single to give Montoursville its first lead at 4-3. Nate Ewing added another single to make it 5-3 and later in the inning a hit by pitch and bases loaded walk made it 6-3.
Dillon Stokes pitched a final two clean innings to earn the win.
Ewing (2 for 4) and Stokes (2 for 3) accounted for half of Montoursville’s eight hits.
