Montoursville seniors lose at Eastern Regional

A huge 10-run inning by New Jersey proved to be the difference as the Montoursville senior all-star team lost in the Eastern Regional, 15-8, in Thorofare, N.J., on Tuesday in the losers’ bracket final, coming up one game shy of getting to the championship game.

New Jersey twice in the game cut the deficit down to two runs, but Montoursville kept the momentum in the bottom of the fifth inning when New Jersey scored 10 runs.

Maddix Dalena had a sacrifice fly to score a run and give Montoursville a 7-4 lead before Ediel Rodriguez had an RBI single in the fifth to put Montoursville ahead, 8-4.

• A bunt down the first base line and the resulting overthrow allowed Brady Myers to score a run and give Keystone a one-run lead en route to an 2-1 win over Kennett Square in the Little League major baseball state tournament.

Kennett Square had bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, but a dropped third strike ended the game with a force at home. Keystone plays Canonsburg on Thursday at 5 p.m. in Berwick in the winners’ bracket final. The state championship is set for Saturday at 1 p.m.

• The Babe Ruth 14-year-old Mid-Atlantic Regional at Logue Field was supposed to begin on Tuesday, but rain forced postponements for Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s games. An updated schedule was not yet available.
