Golf tip of the week: Grip club in the fingers

Grip the club in the fingers, not the palm.

Sixty percent of the golfers that come to me for instruction, hold the golf club incorrectly. Most golfers grip the club in the palm of the hand and not the fingers.

Gripping the club in the palm of the hands creates tension and prohibits a proper club release.

If you held a hammer in the palm of your hand, it would be challenging to strike a nail squarely. In fact, it would be difficult to utilize any implement or tool by holding it in the palm and not in the fingers.

Perfecting a proper grip is the first thing a golfer should address. Without a correct grip, a golfer doesn’t stand a chance of striking the ball solid and consistently.

Don’t forget to enjoy this great game called golf.
