ROUNDUP: South minor softball moves to region semis
Alizabeth Schuler threw a one-hit shutout as the South Williamsport minor division softball team remained undefeated at the Eastern Regional with 2-0 win over New Jersey.
With the win, South Williamsport finished 4-0 in the Mid-Atlantic pool and advanced to this morning’s semifinals. It will face New England pool runner-up Maine.
South Williamsport got the only run it would need in the bottom of the first inning when Schuler singled and was driven home by a Kendall Cardone RBI double. The two teamed up again in the bottom of the third with Schuler scoring on a Cardone RBI single.
Schuler struck out 14 batters to make the two runs stand up for the win.
Should South Williamsport win this morning, it would face the winner of the Connecticut/New Jersey game in the Eastern Regional championship game at 1:15 p.m.
