South minor softball wins the Eastern Region championship

South Williamsport minor softball capped its best season in Little League softball history with a 7-2 win over New Jersey in the Eastern Region Invitational Championship on Thursday afternoon at Pittston.

On Thursday morning, South clinched a spot in the tournament final with a 3-0 win over Maine.

Alizabeth Schuler capped an unbelievable tournament performance with wins in each game, throwing a complete-game, one-hitter with 13 strikeouts against Maine. In the championship game, Schuler tossed 11 more strikeouts while allowing just two hits and went 3 for 4 at the plate.

In the title game, South took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and after an hour rain delay, Lynna Clark effectively iced the game with a two-run double in the top of the third inning to make it 5-0.

Natalya Betz capped a two-hit game with an RBI in the fifth inning to make it 7-1.

Kendall Cardone also went 2 for 3 for South, which ended its season with district, sectional and regional titles.
