West End 16-18s advance to Babe Ruth World Series semis

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Anchored by a strong outing from Isaac Snyder, West End is headed to the 16-18-year-old Babe Ruth World Series semifinal against Charleston, Missouri, after an 11-1 victory over North Fairfax County, Va., on Thursday.

Snyder pitched a gem, allowing only one run on four hits and striking out nine. Offensively, he went 2 for 2 with an RBI that scored Cam Pardoe. In the bottom of the second inning, he received some major run support thanks to an eight-spot that came from an error that scored Logan Edmunds, a three-run double by Quinten Brown, an RBI single by Cody Shimp, a walk issued to Edmunds that scored Shimp and another base-on-balls that scored Snyder. Two more runs came in the top of the third thanks to another RBI single by Shimp and Snyder’s RBI single.

North Fairfax County struggled on the mound as Robbie Owens only lasted an inning, allowing nine runs and four earned runs. Chris Vihn lasted 2/3 of an inning, walking two. Joey Schantz lasted 1 1/3 inning allowing two runs on two hits and Kyle Hodinko pitched a scoreless and hitless inning.

North Fairfax County’s lone run came on a base-on-balls that scored Ryan Hodinko.

West End moves on now to face the Charleston Fighting Squirrels in the semi-final game today at 5 p.m. North Fairfax County finishes with a record of 2-3.
