Local roundup: Williamsport tennis improves to 6-0

In girls tennis, Williamsport earned its sixth consecutive win by defeating Central Mountain, 4-1. Williamsport’s Natalia Diaz was challenged and split sets with Kendall McCluskey, winning the third set super tiebreaker, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1 (10-4).

At No. 1 doubles, Kalindi Maggs and Madison Marchese defeated Natalie Brown, Kati Kwiatek, 6-4, 6-2.

Central Mountain’s lone win came at No. 2 doubles when Zoe Horton and Ella Talbot won, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Katie Savidge defeated Central Columbia’s Tess Gill at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, to help Loyalsock win, 3-2.

At No. 2 singles, Loyalsock’s Sienna Tolomay won, 6-2, 6-4 and Melina Vuocolo won at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-2.

Lauren Hall and Riley Emerick earned wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, for Hughesville to help the Spartans defeat Lewisburg, 3-2.

Lewisburg’s Hallie Keiser won at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 against Hughesville’s Carlee Pepper.

Jersey Shore defeated Mifflinburg, 3-2. Natalie Charnego won for the Bulldogs at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3. Madison Delaney won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Muncy’s Gianna Edkin won at No. 1 singles over Bucktail’s Sarah Rathmell, 7-5, 6-1, but Muncy lost to Bucktail, 4-1.

Myka Poorman and Sara Kepler won for Bucktail at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively.

Olivia Dorner won at No. 1 singles for South Williamsport, 6-0, 6-0, to help the Mounties defeat Danville, 4-1. Lily Summerson won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3.

Towanda defeated Wellsboro, 4-3. Wellsboro’s Kristen Bair won at No. 1 singles over Meghan Mendler, 6-2, 6-1.

• Jena Boyer scored on an assist by Emma Poirier to tie the game for Wellsboro, but a late first-half goal by Sayre’s Gabby Randall gave the Redskins the 2-1 win over the Green Hornets in girls soccer.

Ella Reish scored a goal off an assist by Chloe Michaels with 2:20 remaining in the second half to lift Lewisburg to a 1-0 win against Warrior Run.

• Anthony Bhangdia scored twice and James Koconis had a goal and assist as Lewisburg defeated Warrior Run in boys soccer, 4-1, to improve to 3-0.

• Midd-West’s Lynsey Fultz scored 10 minutes into the first half with an assist from Brenna Brown and the Mustangs offense kept it up en route to a 6-0 win against Muncy in girls field hockey.

• In boys cross country, Williamsport’s J. Jenry Lyon had the Millionaires’ best finish wtih a time of 18:09, just five seconds behind the second-place finisher Tyler Davies of Central Columbia in a meet with Jersey Shore, Shamokin, Central Columbia and Hughesville.

Southern Columbia’s Ethan Knoebel won a tri-meet with Shikellamy and Montoursville in 17:20. Montoursville’s Kurtis Lentz placed seventh with a time of 20:19.

Lewisburg had four of the top five finishers — including first and second — in a meet with Danville, South Williamsport and Warrior Run.

• Williamsport’s Lydia Smith and Cecilia Fink took first and second, respectively, with times of 21:21 and 22:24 in a meet with Jersey Shore, Central Columbia, Hughesville and Shamokin.

Montoursville’s Raya Pauling placed fourth with a time of 24:20 and teammate Kerrigan Hartsock placed sixth in 26:35.

Lauren Trapani won with a time of 18:54 in a meet with Danville and Lewisburg.

• Montoursville’s Peyton Mussina shot an 80 to lead all golfers in a meet with Selinsgrove, Shikellamy, Williamsport and Central Mountain at White Deer. Central Mountain’s Jason Floruss shot the next best score with an 82. Williamsport’s Andrew McCann shot a 92.

Lewisburg’s Dustin Terry shot an 87 and Sean Kelly shot an 88 in a meet at Bucknell with Mifflinburg, Danville, Midd-West and Milton. Danville won with a final result of 79 shot by Caden Mutchler.

• A first half goal from freshman Bailey Gilmore helped the Lycoming College women’s soccer team strike first, but two late second-half goals helped Goucher College sneak away from Beldon Field with a 2-1 win in a non-conference game.

Penn College’s game for today against Keystone has been postponed due to field issues. A make-up date has yet to be determined.

• In women’s volleyball, Penn College lost to Penn State Altoona, 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-15). Emalie Marnati had a team-high five kills for the Wildcats.

• Lock Haven senior midfielder Tamia Roach was named this week’s Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) Co-Player of the Week in women’s field hockey.

Roach, who led Lock Haven to a pair of home wins, shares this week’s A-10 Player of the Week honor with Anna Willocks of Saint Joseph’s. Saint Louis freshman Emily Wastell was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week.
