Shearer throws for 4 TDs as Montoursville cruises

BRETT R. CROSSLEY/Sun-Gazette Correspondent Montoursville's Logan Ott runs over a Warrior Run defender during a contest in Turbotville. Ott finished with 92 rushing yards as Montoursville blew out Warrior Run 47-0.

TURBOTVILLE – The Montoursville Warriors scored on an impressive nine-play drive to open up the game, but allowed the Warrior Run Defenders to drive the length of the field to the 1-yard line in what looked to be a huge momentum boost moving forward.

Well, the Warriors held strong for a four-play goal-line stand and forced a turnover on downs. Montoursville would not look back and scored on their next four possessions to capture a convincing 47-0 win against Warrior run on Friday night.

“I think that was extremely important getting the big goal line stop there, and our offense bringing it out.” Montoursville coach J.C Keefer said. “Last week we had a big stop and got a turnover, but then had to punt out of our own endzone, and it kind of spiraled from there. So it was important to get the four down stop, but also for our offense to get a few first downs, and eventually scoring.”

Montoursville quarterback Hunter Shearer had an outstanding first-half in the victory. He controlled a balanced offense that racked up 437 yards of total offense. Shearer ended the first-half with video game like numbers, throwing for 195 yards and four scores. He was able to spread the ball all over the field connecting with four different receivers. Anytime a Warrior drive may look to be stalling, the junior QB made a big play, two of his four touchdowns went for 71, and 45 yards.

“He has come a long way and he really has learned to take what the defense gives you.” Said coach Keefer. “He did a good job at checking down on the second touchdown, the long one, he found Signor in his third progression, his first and second options weren’t there and he found his third. To have a junior QB that can make those kind of decisions has really helped us.”

Shearer was able to let the ball loose because of a very consistent running-game. As he has been doing all year long, running-back Logan Ott was a force on the ground. The Maryland Baseball commit, reached the century mark on 13 carries. Ott was the workhorse in the Warrior running attack but they also saw a huge play from Dylan Moll, who took a handoff straight up the middle 46 yards to the house. Moll was also on the end of a 46 yard receiving touchdown at the end of the half.

Montoursville (3-1) dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The offensive line paved the way for 221 rushing yards, including the 45 yard score from Moll that was the result of a hole you could have driven an 18-wheeler through. The defensive line did their part as well, constantly pressuring Warrior Run quarterback Remington Corderman. Two sacks by Zackary Schmalhofer in the second half may be the plays that stand out for the Warriors, but Cordermans 15 incompletions are a testament to how well the defense played.

Warrior Run (0-4) was able to put together some sustainable drives during the game, but were hindered by penalties (7-50 yards) and lacked the big play from their running game. Running back Ahmahd Keyes ran the ball with authority all night long and worked hard for his 76 all-purpose yards.

“It was a good effort, still some things we have to work on, I know that big No. 7 (Keyes) is a hoss to bring down, but we know it was a solid effort on both sides of the ball.” Keefer added. “They gave it everything they had, they kept going and kept battling and I feel like we were able to wear them out.”
