Local roundup: Girls tennis district field set
The District 4 girls tennis singles tournament begins on Saturday at Williamsport High School at 9 a.m. The first two rounds will be played on Saturday with the semifinals and finals taking place on Monday at the West Branch Tennis Club at 2 p.m.
South Williamsport’s Olivia Dorner is the top seed and receives a bye into the quarterfinals, as does Loyalsock’s Katie Savidge, Montgomery’s Katie Forrestal and Montoursville’s Maddy Reeves.
Hughesville’s Carlee Pepper plays Montoursville’s Lydia Barbour, Wellsboro’s Kristen Bair plays Lewisburg’s Hallie Keiser, Jersey Shore’s Natalie Charnego faces Milton’s Hanna Seebold and Loyalsock’s Sienna Tolomay plays Shikellamy’s Delaney Wolevar in the top side of the bracket.
In the bottom half of the bracket, St. John Neumann’s MayLyn Ettinger will play North Penn-Liberty’s ISabela Clark, Mifflinburg’s Allison Wagner plays South Williamsport’s Lily Summerson, Bloomsburg’s Emily Keyser plays Muncy’s Gianna Edkin, Montgomery’s Abby Stryker plays Towanda’s Megan Mendler and Milton’s Olivia Eisenhauer plays Jersey Shore’s Cassidy Rell.
Dorner will face either Pepper or Barbour. Forrestal will face either Tolomay or Wolevar. Reeves will face either Danville’s Paige Kupas or Central Columbia’s Emma Kelchner. Savidge will face either Eisenhauer or Rell.
Hughesville’s Rachel Thomas won the singles tournament last year.
• In boys soccer, Lewisburg snapped a two-game losing streak with its 6-1 win over Milton. Jack Dieffenderfer tallied two scores and Nick Passaniti added two assists for 10-5-1 Lewisburg.
North Penn-Liberty fell, 3-1, to Troy. Nathaniel Johnson scored in the 27th minute for Liberty and Logan Horsely had 18 saves.
Brett Rudy scored five goals and Will Poirier added three goals and two assists as Wellsboro defeated Williamson, 10-0.
• In girls soccer, Leah Peterman made three saves and Hughesville outshot Bloomsburg, 10-9, but the Spartans still fell, 1-0.
Loyalsock topped Mt. Carmel, 6-0, as Juliana Cruz led with two goals and an assist. Charlotte Neylon added a goal and an assist.
South Williamsport dropped its first game of the season as it fell to Southern Columbia, 1-0. Alyssa Johnson finished with five saves in goal.
• In girls volleyball, Ryann Adams had 17 digs and nine points and Caitlyn Callahan had 22 kills as Wellsboro defeated Williamson, 3-0.
