Local roundup: Montoursville girls tennis wins on Senior Day

Montoursville’s Maddy Reeves and Lydia Barbour won at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, to help the Warriors defeat Bloomsburg, 4-1, in girls tennis on Wednesday during Montoursville’s Senior Day.

Reeves won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3, and Barbour won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3.

Montoursville hosted a bake sale to help raise funds for two Montoursville community members who are dealing with health issues.

Brooke Bartlow and Emily Wolfgang picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Mifflinburg as Montgomery moved to 13-1 with a 5-0 win.

South Williamsport remained undefeated at 15-0 with a close 3-2 win over Loyalsock. Olivia Dorner and Lily Summerson won No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively, for the Mounties.

Melina Vuocolo won No. 3 singles for Loyalsock and Morgan O’Connor and Abigail Patel added a three-set win at No. 1 doubles.

Jersey Shore defeated Hughesville, 4-1. Cassidy Rell won at No. 1 singles 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(7-1) against Carly Pepper. Jersey Shore swept the doubles matches, Cora Bailey-Getz and Miranda Schneider won at No. 1, Riley Frazier and Dakota Dieter won at No. 2.

Wellsboro defeated St. John Neumann, 5-2. Kristen Bair won at No. 1 singles for the Green Hornets, 6-2, 6-2, over Neumann’s MayLyn Ettinger.

• In boys soccer, Alex Schluter tallied three second-half goals and Brady Dowell had two assists as Loyalsock defeated Bloomsburg, 4-0.

Nathaniel Johnson totaled three goals and two assists and Taylor Nelson added a goal and two assists as North Penn-Liberty topped Williamson, 4-1.

Lewisburg clinched its 17th straight postseason appearance with its 6-0 win over Shamokin. Logan Moore scored twice and assisted on another and Jack Dieffenderfer added a goal and an assist.

Hayden Swinehart scored twice, but South Williamsport dropped another close game, this time to Southern Columbia, 3-2 in double overtime.

The Pombor brothers led Williamsport to a 2-1 win at Selinsgrove as Tom Pombor assisted brother Jimmy in the 31st minute and later scored on a penalty kick in the 77th minute. Elliott Wannop had six saves.

Brian Lewis recorded a hat trick in Sullivan County’s 3-1 win over Benton. Trace Neary assisted on Lewis’ second goal in the 25th minute.

• Athens shut out Wellsboro, 4-0, in girls soccer, scoring three goals in the second half. Lilly Abadi had 13 saves for the Hornets. Abby Sindoni scored just before the half. Rachel Hutchinson scored two goals and Ariana Gambrel also added a goal in the 60th minute.

• Marah Foltz scored twice in the second half to help spark Lock Haven to a 2-1 win over East Stroudsburg. The win snapped East Stroudsburg’s six-game win streak.

Gabby Kishbaugh had an assist.

• In men’s soccer, Lock Haven’s Shane Colegrove scored twice in the first half in a 63-second span and helped Lock Haven defeat East Stroudsburg, 2-0. With the win, the Bald Eagles move back to .500 in conference action and are 3-3 in the PSAC.

Lycoming collected its seventh win in a row with a 2-1 win over Moravian. Tolu Iluyomade scored in the 34th minute and Tajhon Willis put the Warriors ahead in the 68th minute.

Lycoming fell to Keuka 3-2 late in a tightly contested match. Montoursville grad Kyleigh and Hughesville grad Jayden Leighow connected to score in the 34th minute. Sheila Whitman scored the equalizer, but a goal in the closing minutes helped Keuka pick up the win.

• Penn College fell to Susquehanna 4-0, as the Riverhawks scored all four goals in the second half. Warrior Run grad Lanie Urbanski assisted on a Samantha Chillis goal in the 67th minute and Warrior Run grad Madi Welliver had three saves in the shut out.

• The Lock Haven University women’s and men’s cross country teams both moved up in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Atlantic Region rankings.

The Bald Eagles’ women’s team moved up one spot to No. 9 after being idle this past weekend. The men’s team moved up one spot as well to No. 4.

• Lycoming fell to Messiah, 3-0, (25-15, 26-24, 26-24) in women’s volleyballl. Emily Morris finished with 25 assists and 11 digs for her fourth straight double-double to lead the Warriors.

Lock Haven’s Gabrielle Stick earned PSAC Central Division Athlete of the Week honors.

• Dana Evans scored a pair of goals as Mansfield defeated Mercyhurst, 5-0, in women’s field hockey. Brittany Ryan had 11 saves in the shut out as the Mounties added gaols from Meghan Griffin, Larissa Motts and Kalla Borden.
