Local roundup: Shore girls soccer comes up just shy of D4 berth

Jersey Shore lost to Midd-West, 1-0, in the final minutes in girls soccer on Friday, ending the Bulldogs’ hopes of a playoff berth. The Bulldogs’ seven wins are the most since Jersey Shore went 6-3-1 in 2007.

Bethany Beinlich scored twice to help Sullivan County defeat Montgomery, 4-0. Chloe Burke and Alexis Randall both added goals as well.

Kendal Jenkins scored the lone goal in Troy’s 1-0 win over North Penn-Mansfield. Sara Swingle had 13 saves for North Penn-Mansfield.

“I am so proud of how the girls played tonight. They played a very great defensive game and communicated well with each other causing Troy to hurry their shots,” North Penn-Mansfield coach Maryann Wilcox said. “Overall, despite the final score, we are chalking this up as a win for us, considering the first matchup with Troy was a 10-1 loss. Huge improvement for us.”

• In boys soccer, North Penn-Liberty defeated Williamson, 3-0, thanks to three goals by Nathaniel Johnson. Johnson scored twice in the first half.

• Dana-Lee De Gannes scored a goal for Lock Haven, but it would be the Bald Eagles’ lone goal in a 3-1 women’s field hockey loss in Atlantic 10 Conference action against Virginia Commonwealth, 3-1.

VCU held a slight 9-8 shots on goal advantage. The Rams led 2-0 before De Gannes scored in the 19th minute to cut the deficit down to one.

• Lock Haven lost to Edinboro in women’s volleyball, 3-1 (25-15, 25-14, 20-25, 25-19). Gabrielle Stick led Lock Haven with 10 kills and Kristen Nealon had a team-high 23 assists and 10 digs.

• The doubles duo of seniors Kimberleigh Parroccini and Allyson Dugan reached the quarterfinals at the MAC Individual Championships in the second flight of doubles to highlight the Lycoming College women’s tennis team’s first day of competition.
