Local roundup: South girls tennis remains undefeated

Olivia Dorner and Lily Summerson cruised at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, with 6-0, 6-0 victories to help keep the South Williamsport girls tennis team undefeated with a 3-2 win over Danville on Wednesday. The win improves the Mounties to 17-0 overall.

South’s Lauren Peck won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2, against Mariana Arnabar.

St. John Neumann defeated Muncy, 3-2. Molly Foresman won for Neumann at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Muncy’s Gianna Edkin won at No. 1 singles, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 10-6.

• In boys soccer, Tom Pombor and J.R. Confair both scored twice as Williamsport defeated Shikellamy, 6-0. Sam Hillman had two assists. Elliott Wannop had the shutout.

Nick Trevouledes scored in the 51st minute as Hughesville defeated South Williamsport, 1-0. Steven Millheim had 10 saves to preserve the shutout.

Cameron Feister scored a goal in each half to help Sullivan County defeat Muncy, 3-2. Nathan Wetherhold scored both goals for Muncy.

Jersey Shore defeated Central Mountain, 1-0, as Hunter Bierly scored a goal.

Joel Yoder, Conner Smith and Owen Yoder each scored in the first half to lead Milton to a 3-0 win over Shamokin.

James Koconis scored off an assist by Logan Moore with 10:24 remaining in the first half, but a second-half goal by Midd-West broke up the tie and gave the Mustangs a 2-1 win over the Green Dragons.

Will Poirier scored a goal and dished out four assists in Wellsboro’s 10-1 rout of Towanda.

• Kerrah Clymer scored five goals and helped propel Wellsboro in the second half over North Penn-Mansfield to a 5-3 victory.

Mansfield held a brief lead thanks to a goal by Kiersten Mitstifer early in the second half before Wellsboro scored three unanswered.

• In women’s field hockey, Saint Francis scored a goal in each half to defeat Lock Haven, 2-1, in Atlantic-10 Conference action. Lock Haven’s lone goal came from Tamia Roach.

• Three players picked up wins in both singles and doubles matches as the Lycoming College men’s tennis team beat Marywood, 5-1, in a non-conference match. Central Mountain grad Mitch Wheary teamed up with Felix Mahon for a doubles win.

• Matthew Yoder gave Penn College an early one-goal lead, but Penn College and Juniata battled to a double overtime 1-1 draw.

• In women’s soccer, Penn College blanked Lancaster Bible, 2-0, as Dominique Brown and Kaelan Cronan both scored a goal. Cronan added an assist for the Wildcats (8-3).
