Local roundup: Lycoming women fall on road to SUNY Geneseo

Despite outscoring the defending SUNYAC champions by seven points in the final 30 minutes, the Lycoming College women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome its first quarter deficit, falling to SUNY Geneseo, 55-49, in the second game of the York Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Charles Wolf Gymnasium on Friday.

The Warriors will face LaRoche College in the consolation of the tournament today at 1 p.m.

Junior Kayla Kline led the Warriors with 15 points, three blocks, two steals and two assists and sophomore Erica Lutz added 14 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Junior Morgan Mader added eight points, four rebounds and three assists and senior Becca Painter added six points and three steals.

• Penn College dropped a 92-62 decision to Montclair St. in a non-conference men’s basketball game Friday. The Wildcats fell to 0-3.

• Williamsport grad Nazirah Purnell of Linicoln University was named an ECAC Division II Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Month for October for her performance in the HBCU Classic in Cary, North Carolina and the CIAA Championships in Salem, Va.

Purnell equaled the best finish ever by a Lincoln women’s cross country runner in the CIAA Championships with a third-place finish.
