Lyco men fall to Messiah on road
Facing off against the top ranked team in the nation and the defending national champions on the road, the Lycoming College men’s soccer team put up a valiant fight and nearly came away with a second straight MAC Commonwealth Championship over Messiah, but the Falcons overcame a missed penalty kick late in regulation to defeat the Warriors, 4-1, in shootout, after a scoreless 110 minutes, in the conference title game in Grantham.
Lycoming (15-3-2) still has a chance to reach the NCAA tournament with an at-large bid. The selection show is Monday.
Each team drilled its first penalty kick, but Messiah netted three straight to earn the win.
Senior first-team all-conference goalkeeper Chris Solecki made 10 saves as the Warriors were outshot, 24-3.
