ROUNDUP: 3 local players selected to PVCA All-State team

Three local players were selected to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association All-State team Tuesday.

Wellsboro’s Caitlyn Callahan and North Penn-Liberty’s Brooke Harvey were both honored with selection to the Class AA team. Canton’s Caitlyn Pepper was named to the Class A team.

Callahan is a 6-foot junior middle hitter for the Green Hornets. Harvey is a 5-foot-5 senior outside hitter for the Mounties.

Callahan is making her second consecutive appearance on the All-State team.

Pepper, a senior setter, was named to the team for the first time.

• Nate Sestina scored 24 points and the Bucknell men’s basketball team cruised past LaSalle, handing the Explorers their ninth straight loss to start the season, 92-79.

Bucknell has won its first three road games of the season for the first time since the 2005-06. The Bison now take an 11-day break for finals and return to action Dec. 15 at Ohio State.

Sestina hit two free throws midway through the first half to put the Bison in front for good and took a 40-34 lead at the break. His jumper and dunk to start the second half pushed the lead to 44-34 with 17:05 left.

Romeo Langford scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half to lead Indiana over Penn State, 64-62.

Rob Phinisee and Al Durham added 12 points apiece, Juwan Morgan chipped in 10 points and Justin Smith grabbed nine rebounds for the Hoosiers (7-2, 2-0 Big Ten), who won their second in a row.

Rasir Bolton led Penn State (4-4, 0-2) with 17 points, Myles Dread had 12 points and Lamar Stevens added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Nittany Lions. Stevens had a final shot foiled by Smith, who ripped an inbounds pass away from a Penn State player in the waning seconds.

• Mansfield’s Brandon Allen was named the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Newcomer of the Year and 11 Mountaineers earned All-CSFL status in voting conducted by league head coaches which was released Tuesday.

Steve Sicilia was named to 1st Team recognition at offensive line with Wellsboro grad Quinn Henry, Dante Torrisi, Andrew Schwenk, and Allen earning second-team honors.

Adam Hutchison, D.J. McLean, Tristin Cicio, Wellsboro’s Chase Moser, Bryton Barna, and Dajuan Buie earned All-CSFL Honorable Mention.

Allen was a two-time CSFL Defensive Player of the Week selection in 2018 after helping Mansfield to wins over Franklin Pierce and Caldwell with defensive touchdowns. The freshman posted 25 tackles, including 19 solo efforts with a tackle for loss. Allen had a 20-yard pick-six in a win over Franklin Pierce and followed that effort with a 94-yard scoop-and-score to go along with two interceptions for 73 yards against Caldwell the next week.

• After notching her third double-double and her first 20-point game of the season to lead Lycoming to a 2-0 week, junior forward Kayla Kline has been named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for the first time in her career.

Kline averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals in a pair of conference wins to help the Warriors get out to a 2-0 start in conference play.

The junior started the week with 19 points and a season-high five assists in a 74-49 win over Albright. Kline went a perfect 8 for 8 from the free-throw line and pulled down four rebounds.
