Local roundup: Neumann ousted by top-ranked Sankofa

In boys basketball, Sankofa Freedom Academy jumped out to a 48-17 halftime lead as it defeated St. John Neumann, 71-30, in the second round of the PIAA Class A state tournament on Tuesday night Cumberland Valley High School.

David Hill led the Knights with 16 points and five teammates also scored, but it wasn’t enough against the state’s top-ranked team.

Neumann put together another strong season as it finished 20-7, placed second in the district and won a state playoff game for the seventh time in eight years.

• In college softball, Williamsport graduate Mikayla Aldenderfer threw a two-hit shutout in game one and Liz Nace allowed an unearned run in game two, to lead Lycoming to a second sweep of a pair of games at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex, beating Norwich, 3-0, and Lancaster Bible, 7-1.

• The Lock Haven University softball team (4-6) competed in Day two of the PFX Tournament. The team opened the day with an 11-0 loss to No. 22 Augustana (13-4) before defeating Bridgeport (8-2), 3-1 at Legends Way Ballpark in Clermont, Florida

• In women’s lacrosse, Kelly McGinniss recorded her 15th game with at least three goals to go along with 12 draw controls to lead Lycoming, which lost to four-time defending conference champions, Messiah, 21-4.
