Local roundup: Lewisburg’s Arndt throws a no-hitter vs. Shikellamy

In high school baseball, Owen Arndt tossed a five-inning no-hitter, allowing just one baserunner, and Peter Marrara went 2 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs to lead Lewisburg to a 11-0 victory over Shikellamy.

Arndt also went 2 for 3 with an RBI and struck out seven.

Danville used a three-run second inning to defeat Williamsport, 4-1. Brayton Rowell led the Millionaires by hitting two doubles. Williamsport scored its lone run in the top of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to two.

• Playing super sets to beat the weather, Loyalsock swept all five matches to beat Muncy, 5-0, dropping just nine games in boys tennis. Connor Rude, Jake Bomboy and Quinn Deitrick swept the singles matches for the Lancers, and Ben Wescott and Ty Witmore, and Alek Hamilton and Jonah Kiessling combined for doubles victories.

• Three local athletes picked up victories at Mansfield’s Molly Dry Invitational in high school girls track and field. Montgomery’s Hallie McClure captured the 400 title, Jersey Shore’s Reba Lorson won the javelin and Williamson’s Charly Slusser took first in the high jump.

Lorson topped Hughesville’s Alex Snyder in the javelin with a best throw of 125 feet, 1 inch. Snyder was second at 118-4. McClure took the 400 title with a time of 1:03.82, and Slusser cleared 5 feet to win the high jump.

Jersey Shore’s 3,200 relay team and North Penn-Mansfield’s 300 relay team all had first-place finishes.

• South Williamsport’s Port Habalar hit the trifecta in his 3,200-meter win at the Molly Dry Invitational. Habalar’s winning time of 10 minutes, 17.77 seconds was his best time of the season, bested the automatic district qualifying time by nearly 9 seconds and gave him the victory by nearly 5 seconds.

Williamson’s Lakota Gehringer was the only other boys competitor to win an individual event, capturing the javelin title with a throw of 155-2.

• In college baseball, the Lock Haven University baseball team split two conference games with Kutztown, falling 8-3 in game one, before taking the night cap, 7-3.

Loyalsock grad Jimmy Webb went 4 for 8 with three runs.

Mansfield failed to score a run in 15 innings as it was swept in a doubleheader against 21st-ranked Millersville, 9-0 and 1-0. Millersville’s Ben Snyder hit a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning in Game 2. Mansfield had just nine combined hits in the two games.

• Senior Alec Sabatino shot a season-best 85 to lead the Lycoming golf team, which finished 11th at the DeSales University Spring Invitational at the par-72, 6,747-yard Mountain Laurel Golf Club.

Sabatino notched six pars on the course, including four on the front nine, where he a 5-over par 41. Freshman Andrew Everetts posted a 95, junior Aaron Willsea carded a 101, and junior Joe Von Culin added a 109.

• In women’s track and field, Bloomsburg’s Autumn Avery, a Hughesville grad, hit a PSAC qualifying mark at the Johns Hopkins Invitational in the 800. She finished eighth in 2:22.82.

Montoursville grad Kaylie Schans finished seventh in the 400 hurdles in 1:09.42 for Bloomsburg.
