Local roundup: Wellsboro boys tennis wins NTL title

In boys tennis, Wellsboro swept Towanda to win the NTL title, 7-0. Nate Redell started the night at No. 1 singels, 6-3, 6-3. Ethan Ryan rallied after dropping the first set in No. 3 singles to win, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. Noah Poll and Justin Wilcox survived two tiebreakers at No. 1 doubles, 7-5, 6-7 (7-4), 1-0 (10-6).

Eric Counsil won No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4, as Milton defeated Danville, 4-1. Kyle Wagner won No. 2 singles and Eli Yoder and Zack Burkhart won No. 1 doubles.

Central Columbia defeated Loyalsock, 4-1. Loyalsock’s win came at No. 1 doubles as Ben Wescott and Ty Whitmoyer defeated Matt Haubert and Holden Hazzard, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

With the loss, Loyalsock is 12-4 heading into the District 4 quarterfinals on Tuesday.

South Williamsport defeated Mifflinburg, 4-1, thanks to the Mounties sweeping the singles competition.

Franklin Summerson won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Spencer Karasek earned a win at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Led by a 6-0, 6-1 win by Cole Temple at No. 2 singles, Lewisburg didn’t get to a third set in any match as it defeated Bloomsburg, 5-0.

Spencer Thomas (No. 2 singles), Ethan Snyder and Joey Swink (No. 1 doubles) and Mike Dylina and Anthony Machi (No. 2 doubles) each picked up three-set wins in their respective matches, as Hughesville came away with a tough-earned 4-1 win over Montoursville.

Ty Baker and Simon Wallace earned a three-set win at No. 1 doubles and Cam Butler and Caleb Kight added a tiebreaking win at No. 2 doubles as Williamsport topped Shikellamy, 5-0.

Michael Walker picked up a three-set win with a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles and Alex Trunzo added a three-set win with a second set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles to lead Jersey Shore to a 3-2 win over Shikellamy.

• Cole Brewer went 2 for 3 with a double, but Mount Carmel collected 15 hits and snapped South Williamsport’s nine-game winning streak, defeating the Mounties, 7-2, in high school baseball.

Mount Carmel pulled even with South in the HAC-III standings as did Hughesville. Logan Burkett had a single and RBI for the Mounties (9-2).

Colby Springman (2 runs, 2 RBIs) and Brayden Strouse (3 runs) each notched two hits, Hayden Ross had two RBIs and Hunter Budman hit a triple and scored twice as Montgomery tallied 12 hits and took advantage of 11 Bucktail errors in a 14-3 win.

• Central Mountain collected 19 hits and scored 13 runs in the first inning en route to a 13-0 win over Altoona in just three innings.

Alyssa Fisher went 3 for 3 with a double and two triples, Caitlyn Watson was 2 for 3 with a double and Riley Houser was 2 for 3 wtih a double and five RBIs.

Alexa Shultz was 2 for 3 with four RBIs.

Savannah Doney struck out 13 as North Penn-Liberty defeated Cowanesque Valley, 11-1 in five innings. Doney also went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Sara Swingle, Mackenzie Heater and McKayla Valentine each had two hits. Karmen Short was the lone CV hit with a double and a run scored.

Emily Snyder allowed just three combined hits and went over 300 strikeouts for her career as Montgomey took both games of a doubleheader against Sullivan County, winning the opener, 10-0, in five innings, and the second game, 23-0, in three innings. Snyder now has 306 career strikeouts. Montgomery belted a combined 27 hits, led by Shelby McRae who went 5 for 6 with two RBIs in the doubleheader.

Rory Oden struck out 10 and didn’t walk any, and added two RBIs at the plate to lead Muncy to a 9-0 win over St. John Neumann. Alexis Treese tallied a double and triple and Jen Frederick (2-4) and and Lily Frederick (1-3) each posted two RBIs for Muncy.

Marissa Pick belted two home runs and Madi Waltman threw a complete game one-hitter with 10 strikeouts in addition to four hits and a home run at the plate to lead Warrior Run to an 18-1, five-inning win over Southern Columbia.

Montoursville’s MacKenzie Weaver pitched seven strong innings, striking out seven and not walking any, but Danville put up two runs in the top of the sixth inning to come away with a 3-2 win.

Maddie Sauley belted a first-inning three-run home run and Regan Fuller threw a complete-game four-hitter, striking out five, as Galeton defeated previously undefeated Otto-Eldred, 3-2.

• Lycoming split a doubleheader in college softball with King’s, winning the first game in eight innings, 5-3, before losing in the second conest in five innings, 8-0.

In the first game, Kayla Kline went 2 for 4 with a triple. Williamsport grad Mikayla Aldenderfer pitched two innings of relief in the first game and threw majority of game two.

• Montgomery defeated Meadowbrook, 79-61, in boys track and field. Hunter Leet, Hal Drick, Max Herman and Samual Ayres each won two events. Coy Johnson won the javelin with a distance of 129 feet, 6 inches and Christian Bossley cleared 5-4 to win the high jump.

• Montogmery girls track and field beat Meadowbrook, 82-43. Hailey Depasqua won the 1,600 and 800. Rebecca Dgien won shot put and discus and Jessica Umpstead won triple jump and long jump.
