Local roundup: Loyalsock claims HAC-III softball championship

Loyalsock erupted for 20 hits and captured the outright HAC-III championship as it defeated Hughesville, 19-4 in six innings Tuesday in high school softball.

The Lancers (15-3, 9-1) shared the crown with Warrior Run last year. Sam Stopper ignited the offense, going 5 for 5 with three doubles and four RBIs. Summer McNulty drove in a career-high five runs and went 3 for 5 with a double while Maegan Reitz continued her big week with three hits.

Juliana Cruz and Grace Shaible each added two hits, while Jade Cordrey went 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs for Hughesville.

Myka Poorman knocked in two runs with a triple to spark a 10 run third inning for Bucktail en route to an 11-1 win over St. John Neumann.

Rory Oden held CMVT to just five hits and allowed only three runs as Muncy defeated CMVT, 10-3.

Annabelle Bergey led the Indians’ offense by going 3 for 4 with a double, Muncy’s only extra-base hit.

Lorena Marquardt went 2 for 4 and MyKenzie Malacusky had Sullivan County’s only extra-base hit with a double, but it wasn’t enough as Sullivan County fell to Millville, 8-7. Malacusky struck out nine, but allowed 12 hits and a home run.

Emily Snyder tossed three shutout innings and added two hits to lead Montgomery to a 9-0 rout of Benton on senior night.

Peter Marrara hit a walk-off single, scoring Dakotah Snyder as Lewisburg rallied from a two-run, 11th-inning deficit and defeated Central Columbia, 7-6. Kendall was also under the stadium record, finishing second in 15.65. Walter won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 for the Black Panthers, and Maddie Fox set a season’s-best in the high jump for the Lancers at 5-3.

Joseph started the conference tournament by winning 19 of 29 faceoffs against Messiah, helping lead the Warriors to a 15-12 win in the semifinals. In the finals, Joseph won 20 of 31 faceoffs, scooping up eight groundballs against Stevenson, which won its seventh straight conference title.
