West End 13s still undefeated at Mid-Atlantic Regional

The West End 13-year-olds continued their torrid play in the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Altoona as they defeated Hertel North Park, 13-5, on Monday afternoon at Altoona.

West End (3-0) remains undefeated and takes on Ridge Levels out of New York today at 11 a.m. to finish up pool play.

“The questions we had coming in were would our pitching hold up and would our offense come around, obviously both things have happened,” West End manager George Lepley said.

West End, the only undefeated team left in the region, has posted 15 or more hits in every game and is outscoring its opponents, 46-7.

In the win against Hertel North Park, West End jumped out to a 7-0 second-inning lead and added four more runs in the seventh to keep a safe distance. Tyler Gee, who is 8-10 in the tournament, went 4 for 5 with a triple and four RBIs to lead a 15-hit team effort. Cayden Robertson knocked in three RBIs and Gage Martzel added two hits and two RBIs.

Cole Shuler, Eli Olshefski, Noah Turner and Quinn Ranck combined on the five-hitter for West End.

“We’re hoping to keep this streak going and guarantee a first round bye,” Lepley added.
