Local roundup: South boys soccer tops Sullivan in OT

Ben Manning scored off an assist by Quaid Molino just two minutes into overtime to lift South Williamsport to a 4-3 win over Sullivan County in boys soccer Saturday.

Hayden Swinehart scored twice for the Mounties and Jalen Thomas, Colton Ammerman and Trace Neary all scored for Sullivan County.

Lewisburg held Mifflinburg to one shot on goal in a 6-0 win over the Wildcats. Anthony Bhangdia and Anton Permyashkin each had two goals and an assist.

Warrior Run defeated Montoursville, 5-2. Tyrese Hazzoum, Nathan Axtman, Logan Confer, Luke Matrix and Brenden Geiger all scored for the Defenders. Bryce Bean and Angelo Silvagni had Montoursville’s two goals.

• In girls soccer, Ella Reish and Grace Rosevear both scored to lift Lewisburg to a 2-0 win against Hughesville. Lauren Gross had the shutout. Hughesville’s now 8-7-1.

Sullivan County lost to Bloomsburg, 6-0. Kassidy Beinlich recorded 19 saves for the Griffins.

South Williamsport lost to Benton, 4-0. The Mounties trailed just 1-0 at the half. Benton held a 15-3 shots. Brynn Hess scored all four goals.

Jersey Shore defeated Wellsboro, 3-0, as Devon Walker, Kylie Kirkendall and Taylor Fleming all recorded goals. Wellsboro was held to just three shots.

Aleaha Bigelow had two goals and an assist, but Muncy lost to Meadowbrook Christian, 5-4, in double overtime. Ashlynn Fowler and Mia Edkin also scored.

Avery Zales had a shutout as Montoursville defeated Loyalsock, 5-0. Lily Saul scored twice and Mackenzie Cohick and Lydia Earnest both scored.

Warrior Run and Milton tied, 1-1, in double overtime. Morgan Reiner (Milton) and Maggie Sheets (Warrior Run) both scored.

• Wellsboro lost to Central Mountain, 3-2 (25-6, 21-25, 17-25, 25-18, 6-15), in girls volleyball. Caitlyn Callahan had a team-high 16 kills for the Green Hornets and added 16 digs, as did Ryan Adams.

• The Lycoming women’s soccer team fell to 14th-ranked Arcadia, 3-0. The Warriors (7-5-1 overall, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) took four shots in the game, with two each coming from sophomore Megan Oyler and freshman Bella Green, a South Williamsport grad.

Lock Haven was in control from start to finish as the Bald Eagles handled Mansfield, 5-1. It was an offensive showcase as the Bald Eagles finished with a season-high 31 shots.

Megan Ramaley, Josie Swartz, Marley Sprenkel, Marah Foltz and Warrior Run grad Erika Landis all scored for Lock Haven.

• Senior Allie Christopher tallied her first career hat trick, and the Bucknell field hockey team rode a seven-goal first half to an 8-2 win over Lehigh.

Brittany Willwerth and Mackenzie Kile logged two assists apiece, and Chloe Poltonavage, Megan Keeney, Kaelyn Long, Leah Fogelsanger and Maddie Rehak tacked on goals for the Bison.

• The Lock Haven University women’s volleyball team fell to California, 3-0 (25-23, 25-9, 25-16).

A trio of Bald Eagles led Lock Haven in kills. Breanna McDonald, Adriana Serpe and Gloriah Kroh each chipped in eight kills.

Penn College used a four-goal first half to propel itself to a 5-3 win over SUNY Poly. Dominique Brown led the Wildcats offense with a hat-trick and Maelan Cronin added two goals and an assist.

• In men’s soccer, Lycoming dropped a hard-fought MAC Commonwealth contest to Arcadia University, 1-0. Duncan O’Conner scored the game winner in the 20th minute. The Warriors racked up seven shots on goal with Josh Cruz leading the charge with three. Keven Kelley had three saves.

Penn College fell 3-0 to SUNY Poly in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game. The Wildcats fell to 1-3-2 NEAC, 1-9-2 overall, while Poly remained unbeaten in conference at 6-0, 10-3.

• Sophomore Logan Franquet, a Loyalsock grad, continued to roll for the Lycoming College cross country team, setting a career-best mark for the third consecutive race to highlight the team’s race at the DeSales Invitational.

Franquet led the men’s team in the 8K race to a 12th-place finish out of 16 teams by running a 31:05.10, placing 85th.

Penn College finished sixth as Matthew Leiby led the Wildcats with a 30th-place finish in 28:09.

• Freshman Claire Shaffer led the Lycoming women’s team in the 6K race by finishing 65th out of a field of 125 with a run of 28.23.00 at the DeSales Invitational. Senior Kayla Nowak ran a 33:52.30 and freshman Mariah Rovenolt, a Warrior Run grad, finished in 40:37.90.

• The Lycoming College volleyball team played a pair of matches against first-place teams from the Puerto Rico Interuniversity Athletic League, beating Universidad del Sagrado Corazon, 3-1 (13-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-15) after falling to Universidad Ana G. Mendez, 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-13).

Penn College fell in a pair of volleyball matches in a quad meet hosted by Penn State Berks. The Wildcats fell to Morrisville, 3-0 and 3-1 to Cazenovia. Coryn Oswald recorded 11 kills between both matches.

• With a quarterfinals win at No. 7 singles, junior Micah Haag of Jersey Shore highlighted the Lycoming College men’s tennis team’s first day at the Middle Atlantic Conference individual championships.

Haag posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Alvernia’s Dylan Boltz in his first match in the quarterfinals to set up a semifinal match with Stevens’ Eloi Pradier.
