Local roundup: Southern defeats Lewisburg, 42-7, in football
Gavin Garcia ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries to help the Tigers built a 42-point lead in the lopsided victory, 42-7, against Lewisburg on Friday night.
The Green Dragons’ only score came when Jack Landis had a 1-yard run with 2:30 left in the game. Max Moyers led Lewisburg’s offense with 99 rushing yards. The Green Dragons had 126 yards of total offense and Southern’s ground game couldn’t be stopped, as the Tigers had 329 rushing yards.
MIFFLINBURG 49, WARRIOR RUN 14
Andrew Diehl ran for 100 yards and scored two touchdowns — the first two of the game — as the Wildcats beat the Defenders.
Warrior Run cut the deficit to seven when Coltin Pentycofe had a 13-yard reception from Nathan Michael, but Mifflinburg would score three consecutive touchdowns to distance itself from Warrior Run before the Defenders next touchdown.
MIDD-WEST 31, HUGHESVILLE 20
Midd-West running back Hunter Wolfley had another enormous game as he ran for 243 yards and two touchdowns in the Mustangs’ win against the Spartans. It comes a week after Wolfley ran for 452 against Mifflinburg.
Devin Swank led Hughesville with 119 receiving yards on five receptions.
