LOCAL ROUNDUP: Muncy boys snap skid in Laporte

Muncy’s boys basketball team put together an excellent fourth quarter performance and pulled away from Sullivan County on Friday night, defeating the Griffins, 49-36, and winning in Laporte for the first time in six years. The Indians outscored Sullivan, 21-9, in the fourth quarter as Connor Sassano scored 15 points and added three assists. Ross Eyer (11 points, 10 rebounds) produced his third double-double and Gio Persun collected seven rebounds as Muncy (5-1, 5-0) remained undefeated in Mid-Penn play. Jalen Thomas had 12 points and four steals for Sullivan County (1-1, 1-1).

David Hill continued his big senior season, scoring 26 points in 18 minutes as St. John Neumann routed Benton, 81-29. Hanief Clay had a big night as well, scoring a career-high 20 points. Davion Hill added 12 points for Neumann (5-0) which led 26-6 after a quarter and 54-19 at halftime.

Evan Laudenslager and Grant Bachman made runs at double-doubles as South Williamsport built a 37-point halftime lead and pounded CMVT, 72-20. Laudenslager had nine points, seven rebounds and four ssists while Bachman scored eight points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Secoy Roberts scored 23 points as South (4-2) won its fourth straight game.

Liam Manning recorded his third double-double, going for 18 points and 10 rebounds as Wellsboro defeated Sayre, 64-45. Peyton McClure scored 14 points and Darryn Callahan 13 with McClure hitting four 3-pointers and Callahan grabbing eight rebounds. Conner Adams added nine points, five rebounds and four assists as Wellsboro (3-1) won its third straight game.

Point guard Cam Michaels repeatedly broke down Central Mountain’s defense in the fourth quarter and helped Lewisburg win, 58-47. Michaels scored 12 points and fed Jake Herandez for several layups as Hernandez scored a game-high 24 points. Lewisburg took an 18-8 first-quarter lead and never trailed after that despite Central Mountain’s Nick Long scoring a career-high 18 points.

Logan Almeida, Austin Kuhn and Maurice Walters all reached double figures for Montgomery, but Northwest made a first-half lead hold up and won, 48-42. Almeida scored 14 points and Kuhn had 12 points and seven rebounds. Walters added 11 points and four rebounds.

Tyler Jannone scored 12 points, but undefeated Troy opened a big first-half lead and never looked back in an 82-53 win at Canton. Ty Barrett scored 26 points for the Trojans who play at Williamsport tonight.

Bucktail had three players score in double figures in a 56-42 loss at Millville. Dylan Cross scored a career-high 17 points with Braylon Fantaski producing 12 and Kayden Friese 10.

— Jersey Shore’s girls basketball team used good balance and defense to defeat Midd-West, 39-36. Ten player scored and the Bulldogs held Midd-West to 10 or fewer points in each of the first three quarters. The Bulldogs used a strong third quarter to build a six-point lead. Freshman Jocelyn McCracken scored a career-high nine points while playing well inside and earned 11trips to the fou line.

Summer McNulty scored a season-high 22 points and Mia Patterson added 16 as Loyalsock started strong in a 55-47 win against Central Columbia. The Lancers (6-0) built a 36-20 halftime lead and built momentum for a big game Saturday against District 2 champion Holy Redeemer. The Lancers helped themselves at the foul line, making 10 of 12 shots.

Lauren Gross grabbed seven rebounds and made four steals and Lewisburg used some stifling defense to defeat Mifflinburg, 36-32. Regan Llanso collected six rebounds, Hope Drumm dealt four assists and Roz Noone scored 10 points as Lewisburg improved to 5-1.

Mount Carmel broke open a close game in the second half and defeated Warrior Run, 71-40. The two-time defending District 4 Class AA champions outscored Warrior Run, 36-12 in the second half as Dani Rae Renno scored 26 points. Emily McKee had 11, Sydney Hoffman 10 and Jordan Hartman and Gracy Beachel 9 each for Warrior Run.
