Local roundup: CM girls, Jersey Shore boys win in high school swimming

Central Mountain’s girls swim team defeated Jersey Shore, 89-74, while the Jersey Shore boys won, 74-24, Tuesday.

The Wildcats had a lot of individual success all around. Ana Persun (200 free, 100 fly), Hannah Brian (200 IM, 400 free), Leisher Gugino (50 free, 100 back) and Parker Orndorf (100 free, 100 breast) were all two-time winners for the Wildcats.

Madison Bair (50 free), Morgan Brian (100 free) and Autumn Garman (100 back) also won for Central Mountain.

Jersey Shore’s Meaghan Keegan was the Bulldogs’ only girls winner, claiming the 100 breast. On the boys side, the Bulldogs’ Aaron Baker (200 free), Artie Dammer (200 IM), Caleb Stemler (100 fly) and Xavier Barlet (400 free) all were victorious.

Wellsboro’s Hayne Webster and Madison Robbins also competed in the event as independents. Webster swam a 1:15.86 in the 100 back and a 1:04.03 in the 100 free. Robbins finished the 50 free in 32.83 and the 100 free in 1:15.09.

• Wellsboro defeated Williamson, 76-40, in boys basketball. Liam Manning led the Green Hornets with a 27-point performance and added six rebounds and three steals. Darryn Callahan had a near double-double of 16 points and eight rebounds. He also had four steals and four assists.

South Williamsport cruised past Bucktail, 81-17. Landon Sanford led the Mounties with 16 points. Grant Bachman scored 13 points and Evan Laudenslager added 12.

Bucktail was led by Braylon Fantaski’s eight points.

Damian McAllister scored a career-high 30 points, grabbed five rebounds and made five 3-pointers in Jersey Shore’s 64-63 heartbreaking loss at Shamokin. Tristan Gallick produced 19 points and seven assists, but Shamokin rallied with 25 points in the fourth quarter to snap the Bulldogs’ three-game winning streak.

• In girls basketball, Lewisburg edged Shamokin in an overtime thriller, 36-34, to improve to 10-4.

Regan Llonso came up just shy of a double-double as she had eight points and nine rebounds. Sophie Kilbride did a little of everything, scoring three points, swiping away three steals, dishing out four assists and grabbing nine boards. Hope Drumm had a team-high nine points.

Three players scored in double figures and Loyalsock used a big third-quarter run to earn a quality road win at Tyrone, 52-41. Summer McNulty (17 points), Mia Patterson (14) and Cassie Gee (12) all reached double digits and Loyalsock (14-2) erased a two-point halftime deficit with a 19-4 third-quarter run.

Sheiana Tutler continued her strong sophomore season, scoring a game-high 17 points in St. John Neumann’s 44-36 loss against Benton. Tutler also grabbed seven rebounds, blocked seven shots, made three steals and added three assists. Gigi Parlante and Lily Reid added seven points each for Neumann.

• Ethan Litchard posted Warrior Run’s lone fall as the Defenders beat Bloomsburg, 55-6, in high school wrestling. The two teams traded the six contested bouts, 3-3, but Warrior Run earned bonus points with Litchard’s fall and Isaac Butler’s major decision.
