Local roundup: Montoursville boys defeat Hughesville, 60-29
Peyton Mussina scored 18 points and Dillon Young added 14 as Montoursville defeated Hughesville at home, 60-29, in boys basketball Thursday night.
The Warriors (14-4) led by 10 after the first quarter and didn’t let Hughesville claw back.
North Penn-Mansfield defeated Williamson, 69-39. Curtis Craig scored 22 points for Mansfield and Brody Burleigh added 14. Devin O’Dell scored 18 for Williamson.
Sullivan County defeated Benton in a rout, 51-14. Riley King led the Griffins with 14 points and Trace Neary contributed 12. Jalen Thomas had eight assists.
Canton defeated Sayre, 63-56. Isaiah Niemczyk had a monster game by scoring 34 points. Cooper Kitchen added nine for the Warriors.
Muncy beat Bucktail, 82-19. Michael Fry scored 16 points and Loudon Boring and Joe Edkin both scored 11. The Indians had 11 3-pointers.
Northeast Bradford defeated Cowanesque Valley, 78-57. McQuire Painter scored 22 for Cowanesque, Ben Cooper added 15 and Tucker St. Peter scored 14.
Damian Williams scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds, but Hollidaysburg used a big second half to defeat Jersey Shore, 69-55. Tristan Gallick added 13 points and five assists while Cayden Hess scored 11 points. Jersey Shore was tied 36-36 at halftime.
In girls basketball, South Williamsport defeated Shikellamy in a close contest, 35-32. Claudia Green scored 11 for the Mounties (10-1) and Rachel Stahl and Aleigha Reippel both added 10.
North Penn-Liberty defeated Canton, 39-36. Eva Rice scored 19 to lead the Mounties. Canton was led by Reagan Kelley’s 12 points and Aislyn Williams’ 10.
Rachel Lorson drained the game-winning free throw with five seconds remaining at Midd-West as Jersey Shore rallied from eight down in the fourth quarter and won, 34-33. The Bulldogs overcame two eight-point deficits and outscored Midd-West, 13-4 in the fourth to complete a season sweep of the likely playoff qualifier. Lorson scored a career-high 11 points and Delaney Herbst had eight with freshman Celia Shemory adding six.
Montgomery defeated Bucktail, 34-25. Taylor McRae led the Red Raiders with nine points and Faith Persing added eight.
