Local roundup: Montoursville wrestling wraps up HAC-II title

Montoursville’s wrestling team wrapped up the Heartland-II championship with a 58-3 win over Loyalsock. Cole Yonkin posted an 11-0 major decision win at 172 pounds and Josiah Schans had a fall at 152 for the Warriors. Branden Vincenzes earned Loyalsock’s lone win, a 9-4 decision at 132.

Central Mountain won eight consecutive bouts from 113 through 160 pounds to post a 40-24 win over Clearfield. Luke Simcox picked up a fall over Nolan Barr at 126 pounds and Griffin Walizer bumped up two weight classes to get a fall at 152 for the Wildcats.

• Jersey Shore’s girls swim team beat Towanda (84-53) and lost to Athens (80-72). The Bulldogs’ boys swimming team also defeated Towanda (63-47) and lost to Athens (75-56).

Caleb Stemler won the 100 fly in 1:16.06 and won the 100 back by 10 seconds. Meaghan Keegan earned a win in the 50 free and 400 free. In the 400 free, Keegan won by more than a minute.

• Taylor Rae Jones scored 16 points, Lateisha Peterson added 13 and Adelaide Schmitt scored 10 as Williamson defeated Bucktail in girls basketball, 45-34.

Hughesville defeated Central Columbia, 34-24. Alex Snyder came up big for the Spartans with 11 points and Lauren Henry added seven.

Claudia Green scored 19 points to propel South Williamsport to a 42-25 win against Montoursville to remain undefeated (5-0). The Mounties also received 10 points from Rachel Stahl and nine from Piper Minier. The Warriors were led by Mackenzie Weaver and Alaina Marchioni, who each scored eight.

The Montgomery girls continued surging and won for the fourth time in five games, edging CMVT, 30-29. Faith Persing scored 10 points and Taylor McRae added nine. Each team matched the other’s scoring output in three quarters with Montgomery’s 9-8 third-quarter advantage providing the difference.

Kiahna Jones dominated the glass in Central Mountain’s 49-15 win against Jersey Shore, scoring 12 points and grabbing 15 rebounds as the Wildcats improved to 7-1. Of those 15 rebounds, nine were offensive. Quinlynn McCann added seven rebounds and eight steals while Ava Renninger (11) and Avery Baker (10) combined for 21 points. Jocelyn McCracken had six rebounds for Jersey Shore.

St. John Neumann sophomore Sheiana Tutler had a big game, scoring 18 points, grabbing six rebounds and blocking six shots, but Meadowbrook Christian erupted in the fourth quarter to defeat the Knights, 40-29. Kailey Devlin scored 17 of her 26 points in the fourth as the Lions closed the game on a 22-3 run. Neumann freshman Gigi Parlante pulled down six rebounds.

• Nasir Jones scored a team-high 20 points to help Williamsport com from behind for a 66-56 overtime win over Dallas in boys basketball. Trailing 47-41 heading into the fourth quarter, Williamsport outscored the Mountaineers, 14-8, in the fourth quarter, then went on an 11-0 run to open overtime for the win. James Evans-McQuay added 19 points for the Millionaires, and Kenon Brown added 12.

N.P.-Mansfield beat Towanda, 74-58, in boys basketball. Karson Dominick scored 20 points and Brody Bruleigh had 19.

Cowanesque Valley defeated Williamson, 75-40, as McQuire Painter went off for a monster game with 36 points. Painter scored 10 points in the first quarter and had 18 by halftime. Ben Cooper added 20 points and Tucker St. Peter scored 10.

Isaiah Niemczyk scored 21 points and Caiden Williams scored 15, but it wasn’t enough as Canton fell to Troy, 63-59. Cooper Kitchen added 13 and Tyler Jannone scored 10.

Dylan Bieber, Nick Trevouledes and Josh Heiney scored in double figures and Hughesville used a big second-quarter run to defeat CMVT, 62-28. The Spartans drained eight 3-pointers and broke things open with that 24-6 second-quarter flurry. Bieber scored a game-high 15 points with Trevouledes scoring 14 and Heiney 12.

Lewisburg fell to Mifflinburg, 54-38. Isaiah Valentine had a huge game for the Wildcats by scoring 31 points. Cam Michaels scored 11 for Lewisburg and Joey Martin added 10.
