Local roundup: South Williamsport boys top Montgomery, 61-49

South Williamsport came thundering back after Montgomery built a 12-point third-quarter deficit, scoring 48 second-half points and pulling away for a 61-49 win. The Mounties (15-4) remained tied for first in the Mid-Penn and outscored Montgomery, 48-27 in the second half. Secoy Roberts ignited the comeback, finishing with 14 points, eight rebounds, six steals and four assists. Evan Laudenslager produced 12 points and seven rebounds and Grant Bachman added 11 points and five rebounds. Logan Almeida continued his surge and scored a game-high 25 points with his 3-pointer giving Montgomery a 27-15 lead early in the third quarter.

Williamsport started the game on an 8-0 run and never let Hollidaysburg cut the deficit to closer than five points in a 65-46 win in boys basketball Monday night.

The Millionaires (8-4) increased their lead in the second quarter thanks to a 10-0 run.

Xavier Taylor scored 13 points for Williamsport and Zyirece Walker added eight.

The Millionaires led by more than 20 points in the fourth quarter. Williamsport heads to Central Columbia on Friday night.

Delaney Herbst scored 12 points and Jersey Shore fought surging Milton hard until the end in a 44-38 loss. Devon Walker added eight points and the Bulldogs trailed by just two at halftime. Milton won its third straight as Crystal Hamilton scored 12 points and Leah Walter added nine.

Warrior Run defeated Muncy, 48-35. Sydney Hoffman had a huge game for the Defenders and scored 22 points. Gracy Beachel added 16 for Warrior Run.

Muncy was led by Ariana Copeland’s 10 points and Bell Hitesman’s eight.

• Two local players were named to the East-West Class A-AAA All-Star game as part of the Small School West team, and one was named to the Class AAAA-6A West team. The games will be played Sunday, May 30, at Central Dauphin’s Landis Field in Harrisburg.

The Class A-AAA game will be played first, followed by the Class AAAA-6A game.

Bucktail’s Paul Risley (offensive line) and Loyalsock’s Aeden Holler (defensive end) were named to the Small School West all-star team, and North Penn-Mansfield’s Tom Dickinson was named the coach for Class A-AAA.

Jersey Shore’s Owen Anderson (wide receiver), who was huge in helping the Bulldogs reach the PIAA Class AAAA championship in November, will play for the Class AAAA-6A West team.

• The Lock Haven University department of athletics announced that spectators will not be permitted to attend home Bald Eagles’ sporting events this spring.

To date, 12 of 20 LHU athletics teams are planning to compete during the spring 2021 semester including traditional spring sports – baseball, softball, lacrosse, golf, tennis and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field.

The first home event of the 2021 spring semester is set for Saturday, as the cross country teams will host an invite.
