Local roundup: Mansfield baseball sweeps Kutztown in DH

Mansfield beat Kutztown in baseball, 18-14 and 12-7. In game one, Zach Spray went 3 for 4 with a home run, five RBIs and scored twice. Cowanesque Valley grad Tyler Melko hit a home run for the Mounties in both games.

Zachary Shertzer had a huge game in the second contest by going 3 for 3 with a double, home run, five RBIs and scoring three runs.

Combined, Mansfield’s offense collected 28 hits in both games and won game two thanks to an eight-run outburst in the seventh inning.

• Freshman Elisa DiNicola, a Loyalsock grad, contributed to a winning relay while also picking up individual wins in the 200 and 500 free to lead the Lycoming College women’s swimming team to an 88-59 win over Hood.

Freshman Carter Branigan and junior Jake Booth each won two individual events on the men’s side, but Lycoming fell just short, 94-73, as Hood won the last three events to take the dual.

DiNicola happened to be on the 200-yard medley relay team along with junior Devin Kaiser, sophomore Katherine Brown and freshman Courtney Chapman, all of whom lost to a Hood swimmer.
