Local roundup: Neumann defeats CV in tennis

Kara Watterson and Kari Doran blanked their opponents in two-set victories, while first doubles held a tiebreaker.

In the second match of a double-header, St. John Neumannb once again blanked Cowanesque with strong singles play and a tight doubles contest.

Abby Robertson provided the lone win for the Millionaires against Selinsgrove’s Maddie Rowan.

South Williamsport had strong singles and doubles performances and blanked Muncy. Eve Jacson won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1 and Greta Kimble earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles.

Ariana Copeland scored the lone goal of the game early in the fourth quarter to lift Muncy to a 1-0 win over East Juniata in girls field hockey.

Muncy fell to Troy in girls soccer, 1-0. Troy scored the game’s lone lead in the 54th minute. Sarah Dgien had six saves.

Ella Churchill and Ruby Sherman each found the back of the net for a 2-1 Williamson win.

Raygun Lust scored the lone goal for Warrior Run, assisted by Peyton Meehan, but the Defenders fell to Southern Columbia, 3-1.

In boys soccer, Todd Modispaw scored a pair of goals to lift Muncy over Sullivan County, 2-1. Riley King scored for Sullivan on an assist by Trey Higley that tied the game before Modispaw scored with seven minutes remaining.

South Williamsport cruised to an 11-0 rout over Montgomery. Ben Manning, Kayvan Shams, Lee Habalar and Hayden Swinehart each scored two goals apiece. Montgomery was held to just one shot on goal.

Evan Yoder scored a hat trick to lift Milton over Montoursville.

Hughesville defeated Bloomsburg, 2-0. Nick Trevouledes scored twice for the Spartans in the first half.

Lewisburg defeated Shikellamy, 7-3. Nick Passaniti had a hat trick for the Green Dragons. Zach Kreisher had two goals and an assist for Lewisburg.

Wellsboro battled to a 2-2 double overtime tie against Northeast Bradford. Matt Richards and Jack Poirier both scored for the Green Hornets and Poirier added an assist.

In girls volleyball, Alli Macensky led the charge for Galeton with a game-high 11 kills in a straight-set victory, 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-15).

Cam Francis shot a course-best 42 Monday at the Indian Hills Country Club, helping Montoursville defeat Shamokin, 202-224, in high school golf. Francis is having an excellent season and bested the second-place finisher by seven strokes. Aiden Evans also played well and shot a 49. Connor Imbro matched Shamokin’s top finisher with a 55 as Montoursville improved to 4-3.

Kydreece Burks shot a 45 and helped Williamsport stay within striking distance of Selinsgrove in a 176-198 defeat. Aly Chilson also shot well and finished with a 50.

Sullivan County defeated Athens (15-50) and fell to Sayre (15-50) in boys cross country.

Williamsport beat Central Columbia (15-50), Southern Columbia (15-49) and Shamokin (19-44). Top 10 finishers were not made available.

Montoursville’s Weston Fry led all runners with a time of 18:25 in a quad meet as the Warriors beat Mifflinburg (25-31), Jersey Shore (23-32) and Mount Carmel (19-26). Jersey Shore beat Mount Carmel (20-25). The Bulldogs’ Raiden Francis finished second in 19:02.

In girls cross country, Sullivan beat Sayre, 14-22, but fell to Athens (37-18).

Williamsport defeated Central Columbia (18-42) and Shamokin (28-31) but lost to Southern Columbia (29-30). Top 10 finishers were not made available.

Montoursville beat Mifflinbug (22-35) and Jersey Shore (21-38). Jersey Shore fell to Mifflinburg (27-28). The Warriors’ Gabby Shearer led all runners by finishing in 19:59. Raya Pauling took scond in 22:43 for Montoursville.

The Lycoming College volleyball team fell to Arcadia University, 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-18) in MAC Freedom action.

The Warriors (5-4 overall, 1-1 MAC Freedom) were led by eight digs from freshman and North Penn-Mansfield graduate Ali Koval and two kills and three blocks from junior Elizabeth Kelson . Sophomore Megan Starkweather, a Wellsboro graduate, had five assists and an ace.

Penn College fell to Albright in men’s soccer, 1-0. John Villano scored the eventual game-winner midway through the first half. The loss puts Penn College to 1-3-1 overall.

In men’s golf at the Elizabethtown Fall Invitational, Penn College finished 11th. Will Orwig shot an 81 to lead the Wildcats.

Sophomore Luke Leach, a Wellsboro graduate, won his first match of the season for the Lycoming College men’s tennis team as Lycoming fell to Suquehanna 8-1 at the Garrett Complex Tennis Courts.
