Local roundup: Lewisburg boys cross country win all four duals to finish 18-0

Lewisburg boys cross country won all four duals against Milton, Danville, Mifflinburg and Shamokin. The Green Dragons were named division champs at 18-0 and the seniors for Lewisburg end their high school careers undefeated at 61-0.

The Williamsport boys continued their excellent cross country season, taking all four meets in a five-team race against Central Mountain, Jersey Shore, Selinsgrove and Shikellamy. Ethan Holcomb ran the race in a time of 16 minutes, 39 seconds. Justin Fulmer, Patrick Nardi and William Pence Kieser also placed in the top 10.

The girls took three of four races in their five-team meet with Danyse Washington taking sixth in 21:31 and Emily Hale eighth in 21:51. Ellie Fisher finished ninth in 21:59.

Wyalusing swept boys and girls meets against North Penn-Mansfield and Sullivan County. Sullivan County defeated North Penn-Mansfield in the boys race with NPM returning the favor in the girls meet. Hunter O’Connor took eighth for Sullivan in the boys race and Madelynne Johns sixth for North Penn-Mansfield girls.

Hughesville’s Morgan Gavit finished in 16:47 and Montoursville’s Weston Fry took second in 17:14 at a meet featuring the two schools, Midd-West, Central Columbia and Loyalsock in boys competition.

On the girls side, Montoursville’s Gabby Shearer won in 19:26 and teammate Raya Pauling was third in 21:37. Hughesville’s Katie Miller took fourth in 21:47.

• Wellsboro lost in a close contest to Athens in boys soccer, 2-1. Sam Rudy scored for the Green Hornets in the second half. Athens scored both its goals in the second half.

Caiden Alexander scored four of North-Penn Liberty’s five first-half goals in a 5-1 win over Troy. Zachary Wilcox made four assists.

• In girl soccer, Aliyah Neece found the back of the net in the 59th minute off an assist from Devon Walker to lift Jersey Shore 1-0 over Williamsport.

Muncy outshot Montgomery 32-0 in a 9-0 shutout. The Indians’ received goals from nine players.

Avery Soltesz scored for Warrior Run, but Mount Carmel’s Mia Chapman scored twice to propel Mount Carmel to a 3-1 win against the Defenders.

Mackenzie Lopez scored off an assist by Alexis Beaver in the second half to tie the game, but Bloomsburg beat Milton, 2-1, in overtime.

• In girls tennis, Central Columbia swept Loyalsock in singles before splitting sets in doubles for a 3-0 win. At No. 1 singles, Loyalsock’s Anna Hall fell 6-3, 6-2 to Megan Minnig and Mia Blas lost to Riley Noss, 6-2, 6-4, at No.2 singles.

• Galeton defeated Austin, 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-23) in girls volleyball. Alli Macenski led the team with 13 kills and Johanna Dickerson had six kills and 10 digs. Lauren Sauley had a team-high 11 assists and 10 digs. Eve Cole added eight digs and Mikayla Schott had seven digs and six assists.

• Both seniors Jon Marble and Michael Turck each had season-best rounds to cap off the fall season for the Lycoming College golf team at the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen Fall Invitational at the par-72, 6,562-yard Lebanon Country Club.

Marble finished 58th out of the 85 golfers, posting three pars, 12 bogeys and three double bogeys to card a season-best 90. Turck had a 94 to finish 69th.

• After extending her winning streak to nine straight matches in singles play with four wins in a span of six days, freshman Rei Saar, a Montoursville graduate, earned her first career MAC Freedom Player of the Week award.

• A 4-0 week to help lead the Lycoming College men’s tennis team to a pair of wins to wrap up the fall portion of its season has earned junior Nate Redell, a Wellsboro graduate, his first career MAC Freedom Player of the Week award.

• In men’s soccer, Syracuse shut out Bucknell, 4-0 with a pair of goals in each half.

Thanks to an aggressive offense and stellar defense, sophomore Nick Wilke nabbed his third shutout of the season and the Lycoming College men’s soccer team eighth of the year in a 0-0 non-conference draw with 24th-ranked Swarthmore College.

In a fast -paced, back and forth match, the Warriors (6-4-3 overall) managed to put up 11 shots on Swarthmore (9-2-1 overall). Sophomores Dylan Sloan, Christian Barnes and Joe Bamfo all had two shots a piece. Max Kral made five saves for the Garnet.

• Freshman Camryn Quelet posted 10 kills to lead the Lycoming College volleyball team, which fell to MAC Freedom-leading DeSales University, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-14).

The Warriors (8-13 overall, 2-3 MAC Freedom) got six kills from first-year Brynne Bisel, 20 assists, six digs and two aces from sophomore Megan Starkweather, a Wellsboro graduate, three blocks from freshman Sydney Guethlein and 15 digs from freshman Ali Koval, a North Penn-Mansfield graduate, as she reached 350 digs on the season during the match.
