South Williamsport couple celebrate 50th anniversary with community
Rev. Louis H. and Shirley A. Gatti, of South Williamsport, celebrated their 50th anniversary on Dec. 6, 2019. They were married in 1969 by U.S. Navy Chaplin LT Heim at the Chapel in The Woods Naval Air Station, Norfolk, Virginia.
The former Shirley Ann Pate, of Charlotte, North Carolina, is the daughter of the late Harry C. and Goldie R. Pate. She graduated from West Mecklenburg High, Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1962. She received an ABS in business from Dyersburg State College, Dyersburg, Tennessee, in 1992. She was formerly employed as a sales associate at S.H. Kress, Charlotte; a day care teacher at Berclair Church of the Nazarene in Memphis, Tennessee, and a day care teacher at South Williamsport United Methodist Day Care. She retired October 2010.
Louis, of Memphis, Tennessee, is the son of the late Peter A. and Agnes L. Gatti. He graduated from the Catholic High Schools for Boys in 1965 and received a bachelor of art in religion from Lambuth University, Jackson, Tennessee, in 1992. He previously was the pastor of First Church of the Nazarene from 1986 to 1993 in Dyersburg, Tennessee, and has been the pastor at Calvary Church of the Nazarene since 1993. He will retire Dec. 31, 2019. Louis also was in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1987. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer and served VF-13 on-board USS Shangri-la CV-38, VF-33 on-board USS Independence CV-62 and on-board USS John F. Kennedy CV-67.
They are the parents of David Gatti, of South Williamsport, and the late Rodney Gatti, who passed away in April 2017. The couple has one granddaughter, in Virginia Beach, Virgina, and one grandson, in Brooklyn, New York.
A celebration was held on Dec. 7 by the Church of the Nazarene at Hoss’s, Williamsport.
