Section of suburban Detroit street renamed Glenn Frey Drive

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) – A suburban Detroit school board has approved naming a stretch of street after the late Eagles star Glenn Frey.

The Detroit Free Press reported Glenn Frey Drive will run adjacent to Royal Oak Middle School – the former Dondero High where Frey was a student.

The Royal Oak School Board voted 12-0 Thursday to rename part of Willis Avenue after Frey. New signs are expected to go up by Feb. 18.

Frey was born in Detroit and grew up in Royal Oak.

He died Jan. 18 of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia in New York at age 67.

Frey formed the Eagles with Don Henley in 1971 in Los Angeles and co-wrote most of the band’s hits, including “Hotel California” and “Take It Easy.”
