Schmidt visited veterans and military facilities throughout Pennsylvania in addition to having dinners with Legion family members in the eastern and western parts of Pennsylvania.

He was elected commander of the 2.2 million member American Legion on Sept. 1, 2016 in Cincinnati, Ohio, during the 98th National Convention of America’s largest veterans’ organization.

Schmidt shared history in regard to the American Legion organization and how it has helped thousands of veterans, troops and their families throughout its 98 years.

He stressed the importance of membership being a vital part of the American Legion family, so we may continue to support the programs for veterans, troops, their families, children and communities.
