JVB Check It Out

The James V. Brown Library will continue its popular summer concert series with four musical performances planned from June through August in the Moltz Rotunda Reading Room.

The first performance will be Stained Grass Window from 6-7 p.m. on Friday.

Stained Grass Window is a five-piece ensemble from central Pennsylvania. They have been performing in the northeast United States for the past 23 years appearing at a number of the region’s larger bluegrass festivals as well as numerous family-centered events large and small.

The members include banjo player Mark Doncheski, Bob Shuey on guitar, Rick Marcera playing the mandolin, Ken Shafranko resophonic guitar and Doug Ward the bassist.

The second performance will feature Marc Berger presenting songs from his album, Ride, from 7-8 p.m. June 23. Inspired by Berger’s lifelong love affair with the American West, “Ride” presents 10 cinematic recordings capturing the vastness and romance of the West while exploring its deep roots in the American psyche.

Berger has performed at Austin’s South by Southwest Music Festival and The Kerrville and Falcon Ridge Folk Festivals and has opened shows for Bob Dylan and other national acts.

Local musician Steve Sutherlan will return from 6-7 p.m. July 7. Sutherlan is a solo guitarist who performs popular music by artists of the past 50 years.

The final concert will feature Nick Andrew Staver from 6-7 p.m. Aug. 4. Staver is a blues musician based in south central Pennsylvania.

From small corner bars to large auditoriums, he has gained the experience and knowledge of a professional musician while maintaining the mindset to never get ahead of himself.
