‘Latin Cuisine Comes to You’ classes to be held

Experience food demonstration, tasting sessions and hands-on food preparation of popular South American recipes. Learn how to plan meals using local foods and flavors from the region and locally as a part of a healthy eating plan.

Over a three class series, attendees will be introduced to cooking, health lifestyle, history and food cultures of the western coastal region and south tip of South America, including Chile, Argentina and Peru. Each class has a different food focus.

The first class, on May 29, is about the history and food culture of South American cuisine in comparison with U.S. healthy food guidance. The food focus for this class is about fish and shellfish — buying, preparation and healthfulness.

The second class, June 5, is about fruits and vegetables of the region and meal planning with a focus on salsas, chilies and fruit soups and stews.

The third class, June 12, is about history and health with a focus on varied grains, legumes, cheese, seasonings and beverages of the region.

All three classes are from 6 to 8 p.m. and the cost per person includes a meal and program materials. The registration deadline is Tuesday. Participants may register online at http://extension.psu.edu/health under “Events,” then scroll down to “Latin Cuisine Comes to You” classes or by calling 1-877-345-0691.
