Libraries receive over $65,000 from fundraiser

WELLSBORO — Citizens & Northern employees raised over $65,000 in support of 23 local public libraries through its community giving program, Giving Back, Giving Together. Also, over 3,000 items were donated and employees volunteered on 35 occasions to assist their library partners.

Recently, the team captains and libraries came together at The Penn Wells Hotel to celebrate the accomplishment and to distribute the donation checks.

The Giving Back, Giving Together program brings together employees behind a common cause to make an impact in the community. Each year, team members vote on which cause they would like to rally behind and, in 2018, literacy and public libraries won.

While the role of public libraries has evolved over recent years, they remain an important pillar in our communities as a centralized hub, providing unique opportunities for children and adults alike to learn, network, connect with one another and access resources that may not be available to them otherwise.

The bank held its largest fundraising event of the year in June — the third annual C&N Chairity Classic Golf Tournament — which raised over $15,000. The bank finished the year with over $65,417 in monetary donations, 3,339 items donated and volunteered on 35 occasions.

In the four years since Giving Back, Giving Together started, employees have raised $248,938 in monetary donations, collected 17,703 item donations and volunteered their time on 434 occasions for 20 local food banks, 52 local emergency services organization, 16 local organizations that support children in need and 23 local public libraries.

The program “is one of the strong reflections of the culture that we have in terms of connecting with our community and really building relationships. What you see here is important. It is daily conversation for us. The values that we bake into our culture are part of what brings us together to work on literacy and supporting our libraries,” said Brad Scovill, president and CEO of Citizens & Northern.

This year, C&N voted to make a positive and lasting impact in the community by honoring military veterans. This year, C&N will raise funds and awareness for local organizations that provide services for our nation’s heroes.
