May’s Book Review luncheon

Marilouise Mazzante will present a review of “Nicholas and Alexandra: The Classic Account of the Fall of the Romanov Dynasty” by Robert K. Massie at the Book Review Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

This masterpiece of the tragic end of the House of Romanov, the last Russian imperial dynasty, details the love affair of Tsar Nicholas II and his wife, Alexandra, their family, their involvement with Rasputin, and the revolution that transformed imperial Russia. Although this book is a traditional, historically accurate biography, narrating its subjects’ lives from their births to their deaths, the main focus of the story is the love between Tsar Nicholas and Alexandra, the tragedy of their son Alexei’s hemophilia, and the toll that the disease took on both the family and the entire country.

Mazzante received her bachelor of arts at Lycoming College and began teaching in the Williamsport Area School District in 1976. She is a field supervisor for pre-student teachers at Lycoming College.

The luncheon will begin at noon in the Lowry Room of the Welch Family Wing of the James V. Brown Library. There is a cost. For those who wish may purchase lunch. To reserve lunch, call Leslie at the Library at 570-326-0536, ext. 134. Reservations should be made by Wednesday. You should register only if you wish to reserve lunch.
