Volunteers partner with Children & Youth

Since its inception in 1929, the Junior League of Williamsport has been committed to supporting children in our community. After learning about the needs of children and families who are placed in Lycoming County Children and Youth programs or services, the 2018-2019 provisional class elected to partner with the organization as their annual project.

The provisional class was split into two groups, each focusing on particular needs as directed by Lycoming County Children and Youth.

One group raised funds to purchase bus passes for parents and guardians who have no other means of transportation and gift cards for individuals who have an immediate need of clothing, outerwear or shoes. The group held fundraisers at Buffalo Wild Wings, a fitness class at TLC Fitness, burger burn at Sam’s Club, a jewelry event at the Bar on Market and donations.

The class raised over $1,200 to support these needs.

The second group collected clothing and household items such as cleaning tools and products, hygiene products, kitchen items, lamps and organizational items.

A Target registry was created for the items that Lycoming County Children and Youth determined are most needed. The items collected filled an entire room at a local State Farm office.

Later this month the provisional class will deliver the items collected and funds raised to Lycoming County Children and Youth at the Warrensville Farm Complex to be distributed by the Children and Youth case workers to those most in need.
