Lycoming Special Olympics attends 31st Fall Festival
Special Olympics Pennsylvania’s Fall Festival returned to Villanova University for the 31st consecutive and welcomed over 1,200 coaches, athletes and Unified Partners, representing 45 Pennsylvania county programs. Participants competed in bocce, long distance running and walking, powerlifting, roller skating, soccer and volleyball.
Special Olympics Lycoming County sent 35 athletes and coaches to participate in this years competition with athletes competing in bocce, long distance walking, powerlifting, soccer and volleyball.
Athletes representing Lycoming County in bocce and winning gold medals include Ray Demarest and Chris Boyce.
In long-distance walking, Tony Fichetti returned home with a gold and bronze medal and a fourth place ribbon.
Powerlifters, Jim Berry earned fourth place ribbons in the bench press and deadlift; Rich Dibble earned a silver medal in the bench press; and Byron Diemer collected four gold medals in the bench press, deadlift, squat and overall combined.
The soccer team, consisting of Chris Conklin, Brady Ferguson, Nick Johnson, Ryan Kenney, India Price and Neil Schweikart, and the volleyball team, consisting of Cynthia Arce, Tyler Green, Jonathan Hess, Anthony Moyer, Austin Post, Braeden Schell and Jim Steinruck, came home with gold medals.
