SPCA has a joyful reunion

It was around twilight when Ethel arrived at the Lycoming County SPCA one cold January night. Her owner had recently become homeless and he and Ethel had been living in his car. But now, with the depths of winter descending on Pennsylvania, he felt that it was too cold for Ethel to remain with him.

“I can tolerate it,” he said, “but I worry that it is too cold for Ethel.”

He tearfully said good-bye to Ethel and headed out the door. While Ethel spent the night warm and cozy, she must have been wondering, for sure, where her dad was. As the days went by, the SPCA found Ethel to be a happy-go-lucky girl with lots of confidence. She was thrilled with toys and looked so cute with those big ears of hers. Caregivers showered her with buckets of tender loving care and prepped her for adoption by ensuring that she received her appropriate vaccines, was tested for Lymes disease and parasites, and was spayed.

Valentine’s Day was right around the corner and thoughts of true love began to fill the shelter air. Indeed, the day itself arrived and with it, lots of kisses (of the slobbery kind) and celebrations. But one celebration stood out, and it was Ethel’s.

Unbeknownst to Ethel, her dad had secured a new house, and he could not wait to come and take her home. You should have seen her face! How overjoyed she was to be back in his arms again. It was a Valentine’s Day story we will never forget.
