Who’s the star of a musical at the CAC? SpongeBob SquarePants

After the Community Arts Center’s summer stock show had a “forced intermission” last summer due to COVID-19 restrictions, the downtown venue lights up again, announcing auditions for the 2021 production.

This summer’s student production will be “The SpongeBob Musical”, with all auditions to take place via video submission, due no later than May 1, with call-backs taking place on ZOOM.

The colorful musical will be staged from July 30 to Aug. 1, at the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St., downtown Williamsport, consistent with applicable COVID restrictions.

“The SpongeBob Musical” garnered 12 Tony Award nominations in 2018, with the silly storyline focusing on SpongeBob valiantly trying to stop an erupting volcano from destroying Bikini Bottom.

This production will be directed by Lycoming College Theatre professor Dr. C. Austin Hill, who directed the 2019 summer stock production of “Newsies.”

Hill notes that auditions are open to all middle and high school students, grades 7 – 12.

CAC’s Executive Director Chuck Stills states that rehearsals will begin on June 1.

Information on auditions should be directed to the show’s director C. Austin Hill: cacchill@caclive.com; or the box-office at 570-326-2424.
