Flaming Foliage tentatively cut to 1-day event this year
RENOVO — With the impact that the state will likely still be dealing with come October, the Flaming Foliage Festival Committee has decided to proceed with the annual festivities, but limit it to a one-day event on Saturday, Oct. 9.
The committee said this decision came after much thought and concerns about how future planning would no doubt revolve around what is permitted come October.
A major factor into compacting the event into one day is the housing of the Queen contestants and their escorts, as host families for the weekend aren’t in any way foreseeable eight months away.
Still, not wanting to cancel for another year, the committee has full confidence that they can provide all of the highlights that a typical festival weekend brings on one day.
They do caution that even more than ever, this year each high school contestant and band willing to make the trip to Renovo will have to be approved for travel by their school and parents.
The committee will continue to make plans for the 2021 festival weekly. They have set a first week of July as deadline to reassess their plans and see what may have to be changed, altered or possibly even added to their one-day festival.
In the meantime, the committee will proceed with funding the event by getting started this weekend with a home-made soups and ham pot pie sale starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Flaming Foliage Information Center in Renovo. The sale will also feature an Irish-themed bake sale and a St. Patrick’s Day raffle in preparation of the upcoming Irish holiday.
Public communications will be a constant as the committee hopes not only to play their best hand that the epidemic presents by October while also wanting to give plenty of time for Renovo area residents as well as out of town visitors to make their own preparations.
