The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., has announced the availability of Mother’s Day kits for families beginning in May.

The kits can be used by families to create special treats to celebrate a special woman in their lives on May 9. Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.

Each kit contains a book to read together, a tray to decorate, an acrostic poem to fill out, and items to create homemade lip balm, peppermint foot soak, lavender bath salts, and an aloe face mist. The kits are designed to promote family engagement and creativity. A Father’s Day kit will be available in June.

Twenty-four kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis, one per family, in the first-floor of the Welch Children’s Wing.

The kits were funded by support from the Friends of the James V. Brown Library. To become a member, visit https://jvbrown.edu/about-the-friends/.

— The library supports the PA Forward statewide initiative, which believes that when Pennsylvania residents improve their command of five types of literacy — basic, information, civic and social, health and financial — they can achieve greater success as students, parents, employees, consumers, as citizens. Libraries are community centers of information, technology and learning that will fuel educational and economic opportunity for all of our citizens.

For your safety, all returned materials are quarantined for three days.

The James V. Brown Library is open for browsing and holds pick up from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
