Harpist to dazzle at library program

The Friends of the James V. Brown Library Book Review Program will be held on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, and will feature Wendy McCormick, harpist, presenting a holiday program, “Holiday String,” at 12:15 p.m. in the Lowry Room. Reserve a seat by calling the Library at 570-326-0536 or use the library’s online reservation calendar (http://calendar.jvbrown.edu).

McCormick’s program will include familiar and lesser known carols and songs from Ireland, Scotland and England. The contemporary arrangements showcase the 34-string Celtic or lever harp.

McCormick began studying musical instruments at a young age, and discovered a passion for the Celtic harp in her middle years. She has had the privilege of touring Scotland with Harpa — a group of professional harpers from the United States. Currently, she enjoys sharing her love for the instrument with others, and also volunteers at the Gatehouse where she often plays a small harp for patients and their families.

Snacks and water will be available, or bring a bag lunch, if desired. Reservations must be made before 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1. Parking is available in the public lot off Market Street, adjacent to the Welch Wing.
